Throwers End Regular Season With Success

FRESNO, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield track and field team ended their regular season at the Oxy Invitational on Saturday, May 6th. A squad of throwers competed in their final meet, before championship season comes. The highlight of the meet for Roadrunners was a 1-3 sweep in the men's shot put.

The trio of Thomas Richardson, Axel Toro, and Matthew Garrett went 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the event. Richardson grabbed his third win in the shot this season with a throw of 54'02". The Bakersfield throwers have done a tremendous job all season long in the event as well as the hammer throw.

Jessi Solis placed second overall in the women's hammer throw, earning a mark of 162'0". This is the fourth time Solis has placed in the top-3 for the HT.

In a deep field for the men's hammer throw, Matthew Garrett finished in third place. His mark of 193'06" was good to be the best mark by a collegiate athlete. Teammates Javier Toro, Axel Salazar, and Thomas Richardson followed closely behind.

The `Runners now focus on the Big West Championships hosted by the Cal State Fullerton Titans, set to start with full conference competition on Friday and Saturday, May 12-13.
