CSUB Wraps Up 2023 Season in Riverside

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield softball team wraps up the 2023 season in Riverside this weekend. CSUB enters this weekend after dropping a competitive series with Long Beach State. The Roadrunners also had a 3.33 ERA versus LBSU. Bakersfield looks to end the season on a high note before closing out the season and looking ahead to 2024.

`Runner Notes 
  • Maya Williams led the Bakersfield offense this past weekend versus Long Beach with three hits, which was good for a .333 batting average. Williams enters the weekend on a three-game hitting streak and reached base streak.
  • Kirsten Martinez made two appearances on the weekend, going 11 innings with a 1.91 ERA. In conference play Martinez has a 3.38 ERA over 47.2 innings of work.
  • Karissa Munsey leads the CSUB offense this season with a .266 average this season, and a .295 average in conference play. Munsey also leads the team in home runs (6).
 
Scouting the Opposition
  • The Highlanders (22-28, 8-16 BW) are coming off two series wins versus UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara over the past two weeks. UCR is 5-2 in their last seven games where they hosted Saint Mary's, and then went on a two-week road trip to UCSD and UCSB.
  • The Riverside offense ranks fifth in the conference, batting .259 as a team and rank second in hits just behind Santa Barbara. The offense is led by Nadia Witt who is batting .354 with an OPS of .873. Witt leads the team in hits (56), slugging percentage (.456), batting average, on base percentage (.417), and stolen bases (13). Witt also has 17 multi-hit games and a reached base streak that lasted 27 games.
  • The Highlander pitching staff also ranks fifth in the conference with an ERA sitting just below three at 2.94. Maddie Heinlin leads the team with a 2.01 ERA, 117 strikeouts, an opponent's batting average of .223, and seven complete games. Heinlin also ranks sixth in the conference for individual ERA.
