Bakersfield Takes Care of Hawai'i in Game 1

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team wins their second consecutive Big West conference game in Hawai'i last night. Bakersfield had a strong pitching performance that held the Warriors to four total hits on the evening. The top of the Roadrunner lineup did a lot of the heavy lifting, as Riley Kasper, Matthew Kurata, and James Bell all had two hits each. Bell and Kurata were responsible for driving in the three runs.

Quotes from Head Coach Jeremy Beard
  • "Our guys played with a lot of energy and excitement behind excellent pitching by Verdugo to start the game.
  • "We took competitive at bats and put enough pressure on them to plate a few for an early lead. Saldana pitched with an edge and took charge out of the pen. It was a nice shot in the arm for our bullpen."
  • "Playing in this atmosphere was a great experience for our players, they played with a chip on their shoulder and won key moments throughout the night."

    • Bell leads the team in hits (29), doubles (10), RBI (22), total bases (45)
