CSUB Travels to CSUN This Weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield softball team is back on the road before their last home series of the 2023 season. CSUB is heading down south to take on CSUN for a three-game series that will feature a double header on Friday, and one game Saturday afternoon. The Roadrunners took one from Hawai'i this past weekend, falling just short from a series win.

`Runner Notes 
  • Two players on the offensive side stood out this weekend for the `Runners. Karissa Munsey and Savanna Montoya both had a .500 batting average versus Hawai'i and got it done in different ways. Munsey had five singles and one double with five RBI. Montoya had four doubles and one single with one RBI but featured a slugging percentage of .900.
  • Jocelynn Molina continues to impress as she had three hits in seven at bats versus the `Bows.
  • The Bakersfield pitching staff held their own versus this tough Hawai'i offense. Over 21 innings, they came out with a 3.67 ERA. Kirsten Martinez and Reina Castillo had complete games allowing a combined 7 runs. The `Bows had a batting average of .255 versus Martinez, as she ended the series with a 1.08 ERA over 13 innings of work.
Scouting the Opposition 
  • The Matadors (19-21, 10-8 BW) are coming off a series win versus UC Riverside. The two teams played three very close games as one game went 16 innings, and the Matadors were able to pull out the win.
  • Mikayla Carman leads the CSUN offense with a .336 average, 41 hits, 20 RBI, and 52 total bases. Carman also leads the team in multi-hit games (11), of those she has 5 games with three hits. The team as whole is slashing .238/.335/.335.
  • CSUN's pitching staff comes in with a team ERA of 3.38 before playing UCLA this week; opponents are hitting .256 against this staff.  Isabella Alonso has the most innings pitched (74) with three complete games, 28 strikeouts, and an ERA of 2.74.
