`Runners Back at Home on Tuesday after Hard-Fought Weekend

FULLERTON – The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team closed out their weekend series against the Cal State Fullerton Titans Sunday afternoon. The `Runners fought hard in today's matchup, outhitting the Titans 9 to 7, but left 14 runners stranded on base and ended up losing the closeout game 5-2.

  • Bakersfield took the early lead during the first inning, scoring two runs. One run came from Matthew Kurata's double to right center and the other from Jacob Ruley who singled to center field.
  • As the game continued, Jacob Gutierrez would hold off the Titans for 4.2 innings, holding them hitless.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Fullerton finally gained a little momentum, scoring one run off of Maddox Latta's RBI single to left field.
  • During the fifth, Fullerton managed to load up the bases and the Titans took the lead by scoring three runs, making the score 5-2.
  • Following Gutierrez, sophomore, Ryan Figueroa, took charge on the mound, shutting out the Titans for the rest of the game.
