CSUB Ends Mustang Invitational with Multiple Wins

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield track and field teams had a successful day at the Mustang Invitational on Friday, Apr. 21. The Roadrunners had multiple victories and saw impressive personal-bests. Miranda Miller, Skyblue Gonzales, Riley Slayton, and Thomas Richardson took home a win in their events.

Top `Runner Performers
  • Jaztyn Greer, Kailee Yoshishige, and Riley Slayton placed in the top-five for the women's 100-meter hurdles.
  • In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Riley Slayton clocked in 1:00.01 and took the win.
  • Nerissa Thompson continues to progress well. Thompson was just off her personal record in the 100-meters. She placed second in the event with a time of 12.24.
  • Freshman Jarrell Rogers earned a personal-best in the 100-meters (10.94) and the 200-meters (22.39).
  • We had two athletes compete well in the 400-meters. With a lifetime best of 49.01 in the event, Skyblue Gonzales also earned his first collegiate win. On the women's side, Julie Johnson finished in second with a time of 57.21.
  • Helena Valentic became #13 CSUB all-time athlete in the women's 5,000-meters. Valentic placed second with a time of 18:17.51. She now is on the all-time list in four different events at CSUB.
  • Jesus Alvarez and Noah Wright placed second and third in the men's high jump. 
  • Evan Vigrass placed third and earned a personal best of 179'02.25" in the men's javelin throw. 
  • Thomas Richardson and Matthew Garrett continue to dominate in the men's throws. The two athletes went first (Richardson – 56'03.50") and second (Garrett – 55'06.0") in the shot put. In the hammer throw, Garrett placed second with a throw of 193'02.75", while Richardson finished closely behind in third with a mark of 192'03.0". Richardson earned a personal-best in both events and moved up in the all-time for them as well.
  • Miranda Miller earns a season-best in the pole vault while also taking first place with a jump of 13'08.50". It is the eighth time Miller has won the event this season.
  • The `Runners had three women place in the top five for the hammer throw. Jessi Solis led the pack with a third-place finish throw of 160'09". Ashley Siever got a personal best throw of 132'01.00", good for 18th all-time. 
  • The men's 4x400-meter relay team won in 3:23.60.
