Softball Welcomes UCSD for Big West Competition

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield softball team opens Big West play at home this weekend versus the UC San Diego Tritons. CSUB is coming off a week that they played four total games and came out with a 2 – 2 record on the week. The Roadrunners bettered their record to 5 – 18 on the year after a tough stretch of road games where they faced some of the best schools in the nation.

`Runner Notes
·       Last week Bakersfield finished the past week going 2–2 versus Santa Clara and Pacific. The 'Runners split both doubleheaders, holding their opponents to two runs in both of those wins.
·       Shaylene Fuimaono leads the team with multi-hit games (3) and multi-RBI games (3).
·       Maya Williams leads the team in hits (14), batting average (.259), OPS (.690), and on-base percentage (.375).
·       Brianna Sanchez pitched a complete game versus Pacific giving up only one run and striking out four.
·       Reina Castillo earned her first win of the year versus Santa Clara giving up two runs in a complete game effort.

Scouting the Opposition
·       UC San Diego comes into this week with a (9 – 14) record. They won two of three in the Lance Up Invite where they played Harvard, California Baptist, and Syracuse.
·       The Triton's best bat may be Deena Pederson, she is batting .361 with 22 hits. Pederson has three doubles, two triples, and one home run.
·       The UCSD pitching staff has an impressive team ERA of 2.65, opposing teams are batting .254, and they have struck out 133 batters heading into this series with Bakersfield.
·       Jada Cecil has appeared in thirteen games starting nine. She enters this week with a 2.15 ERA and 58 strikeouts, while batters are hitting .242 against her.
