`Runners Lead CSUN Wire-to-Wire for 3rd-Straight Win

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Keeping the momentum train rolling from a pair of overtime wins last week, the Cal State Bakersfield men's basketball team made it three-straight with a home win on Thursday night. The Roadrunners led by as many as 23 points on the way to a convincing, wire-to-wire victory over CSUN, 73-58, inside the Icardo Center.

Notables
  • Bakersfield (9-15, 5-8 BW) sprinted ahead with hot shooting led by senior Travis Henson. The native of Oxon Hill, Md. tallied 20 points despite playing just under 20 minutes due to foul trouble.
  • Henson's offensive explosiveness was contagious as CSUB shot 60% in the first half on the way to 49% shooting on the evening.
  • Antavion Collum, the reigning Big West Player of the Week, added 17 points and eight rebounds while Marvin McGhee III chipped in 13 points on a perfect shooting performance (4-4 FG, 3-3 3FG, 2-2 FT).
  • Sophomore guard Ivan Reynolds did a little bit of everything, tallying six points, eight rebounds, a career-high ten assists, and two steals. Reynolds also limited CSUN's top scorer, Atin Wright, to just seven points (0-6 FG, 7-8 FT).
  • Senior forward Cameron Smith added 11 points, eight boards, two assists, and two steals in the victory.
  • CSUB outrebounded its foe from Northridge (5-19, 2-11 BW), 32-24.
Quotes
  • "They came out in a zone, they gave us open looks. We work on our shot every day, so we just believe in it and jump up with confidence to shoot." – Henson on the team's hot shooting performance.
  • "We've been sticking to the same game plan all year. Good defense leads to good offense. We're just getting comfortable with each other, the chemistry is gelling well with the young guys and a new rotation." – Smith on the team's three-game win streak.
  • "My teammates, everybody was just in the right spots. Everybody was communicating when they were open, so it was just my job to make a good pass." – Reynolds giving credit for his career-high 10 assists.
  • "Ten assists, no turnovers? That's amazing." – Smith on Reynold's performance.
  • "I have to start with our fans. We've gone through a very difficult time and we've had fans that have continued to stay with us. Our administrative team has done a great job of getting people out to the game. Obviously, we'd like to get back where we're almost selling out every night, but the people that are coming have done a really great job of lifting our guys and lifting our spirits." – Head Coach Rod Barnes on the 1,400 fans who showed up on Ag Night
  • "We worked for three days against the zone. I kind of anticipated, because they just beat the No. 1 team, Santa Barbara, with the 2-3 zone, we just wanted to attack it. I thought our kids did a great job of attacking it. I thought we shot the ball well. I just like the spirit of our team." – Barnes on how the `Runners dismantled the Matadors.
