Mutai Leads CSUB Past CSUN, `Runners Fall to LBSU

OJAI, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's golf team kicked off the Spring portion of its season on Wednesday with a single round of action. The Roadrunners went club-to-club against a pair of Big West foes, CSUN and Long Beach State, at Soule Park Golf Course. CSUB defeated CSUN but the `Runners fell behind LBSU in Wednesday's competition.

Notables

Freshman Sarah Mutai led the `Runners with a round of 74 (+2), one of four CSUB scores in the 70s.
Bakersfield used 303 strokes on the day, its fifth-best team score of the season.
CSUB defeated CSUN (307) but was overcome by Long Beach State (281).

"There were a lot of positives, individually and as a team, to take away from the first event of the Spring. We did a great job of ball-striking and putting ourselves in good position in the fairways, but we need to do a better job going into greens and adapting to different speeds on the green."

Wednesday's Round

Mutai's 74 is two strokes lower than the 76.08 average she posted during the Fall.
Iris Han was just one stroke behind Mutai with a round of 75 while Arlene Salvador posted a 76.
Aufa Rachmadya, making her first appearance of the season after missing the Fall due to a wrist injury, rounded out Bakersfield's Scoring 4 with a card of 78.
Jefi Dordevic came back to the clubhouse with a score of 79 on Wednesday.
Competing as individuals, Christy Mae Saban posted an 84 while Gillian Galicia tallied 85 strokes.

CSUB will co-host the third annual Valley Invitational, presented by Chick-fil-A alongside Cal Poly.
