D'Arcy and Huxhold Named in All-Time Best Mid-Major Times

In a May 1, 2023 article from SwimSwam.com, a popular swimming news and blog site, the top NCAA Mid-Major performers through 2022-23 were ranked. The list primarily spanned swim records since 2000, which includes two standout Cal State Bakersfield student-athletes that swam under current CSUB Swim and Dive Director Chris Hansen. According to the best Mid-Major Swims of all time, Mitchell Huxhold's 2013-14 swim in the 1650 Free (14:47.18) ranked 8th, while Autumn D'Arcy's 1:55.84 in the 200 Fly from 2021-22 sits 9th in that event.

During his time as a `Runner, Huxhold excelled in all freestyle events, even posting what was, at the time, second-best times in CSUB history for the 200 Free (1:21.08) and 800 Free (6:30.09). He collected a number of accolades throughout his college career, qualifying for the 2012 United State Olympic Trials in both the 400 and 1500 Free while also winning MPSF Freshman of the Year, resetting the program record in the 500 Free twice at the 2013-14 WAC Championship, and finishing his CSUB career while holding five school records.

He would later return poolside to help Chris Hansen coach as a student assistant in Fall 2015.

Having both a male and female swimmer make this list is awesome for CSUB! I got here during our DI transition year, so this is even more special. Mitchell was one the hardest workers I have had the pleasure of coaching. He loved to race! He was our first NCAA qualifier after the transition from DII.

Autumn made a name for herself early, winning three WAC titles as a true freshman in 2019. She followed up with an even more impressive sophomore campaign, setting a new program record with 26 individual race victories on the way to sealing four more WAC titles and Second Team All-League honors. Before graduating in 2022 as Bakersfield's all-time Division I wins leader, D'Arcy also shined on the international stage, becoming an Olympic Trials participant in 2021 and winning the 100 Fly silver medal at the 2021 US Open.

She capped off her career in style with winning 2022 MPSF Swimmer of the Year while also being named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America Academic All-American, putting a final bow on one of the most celebrated individual seasons of competition in Roadrunner history.

Won 2020 WAC Swimmer of the Year as 4-Event Champion
Autumn had her eyes set on making NCAA Championships from day one. I remember watching her swim this top-10 mid-major 200 Fly time at the NCAA tournament in Atlanta. It was her last swim of her career, which makes this accomplishment even more special!
