CSUB Alum Jasmin Dixon Joins Women's Basketball Staff

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Head Coach Greg McCall and the Cal State Bakersfield women's basketball team are ecstatically proud to announce the hiring of 5-year Roadrunner alum Jasmin Dixon as the team's newest assistant coaching addition. Dixon will provide a welcomed defensive spark to the coaching staff as a former defensive expert under McCall just two years ago.

A Bakersfield-native and 2017 graduate of Independence High School, Jasmin impressed early in her career as a quick learner both on and off the court. Someone who McCall spoke glowingly of for her accolades in the classroom, Dixon earned her degree in Kinesiology during her career at CSUB. After taking a redshirt for her first season, she went on to amass 91 appearances, over 1500 minutes played, and 76 steals through four seasons of competition.

To get candid answers on how Dixon's hiring affects the team, we sat down with the woman of the hour and Head Coach Greg McCall.

How is it to have an alum join the staff?

McCall: "We are super excited about having her back, especially on our staff now. She was great for us as a player who came in as a freshman, learned the system, and she grew as both a player and person. Now, on the other side, she has to learn how to teach the new generation not only how to understand me as a coach but the system we run as a program."

What can she bring to this staff that makes her so important?

McCall: "Her being a part of our CSUB basketball family is mutually beneficial for her and us. She will bring a wonderful community service aspect to our already hard working side. She is a big name in the community and getting our girls out there even more will be a great example to set. Her playing strength was on the defensive side, and that was something we wanted to work on heading into this year. She leads by example and has already earned the respect of our players."

Just how excited are you to be back? How do you fit into this staff and team?

Dixon: "It's good to be back and I'm super excited to get back into the college game. I learned so much from being a player here, so transitioning to coaching makes me excited to give these players and students the same experiences that I had. Being a Bakersfield-native, I can help our players both from here and abroad get acclimated to living in the area, and from a coaching standpoint I am familiar with the coaching, facilities, and environment."

What have you been up to since graduating? How great to start out coaching D1 basketball!

Dixon: "I've been coaching basketball and fitness at a local gym, but this will be my first foray into team coaching. I feel super blessed to have a Division I opportunity for my first coaching job. Sometimes, I still can't believe it. This is such an amazing opportunity and I want to make the most of it, learn as much as I can."
