• Cal State Bakersfield's men's soccer team has posted a 5-0-3 record in its last eight matches.
  • With four points on the first week of league play, the Roadrunners are tied for second in The Big West standings.
• Bakersfield's last loss was also its only loss of the season as the `Runners are now 5-1-4 on the year.
  • CSUB's only defeat in 2023 has been at the hands of No. 17 San Diego State, which is now 6-1-2.
• The `Runners rank first in The Big West and 12th in NCAA Division I with a 0.600 Goals Against Average.
  • CSUB has posted four shutouts in its first 10 matches and no team has scored more than one goal against the `Runners this year.
• Bryson Hankins, a Bakersfield native and a team captain, is one of the team's top contributors.
  • The defender plays a huge factor in CSUB's defensive prowess, but he also is first on the team in assists (2) and second in points (4).

 CSUB 1, Sacramento State 1 – Wednesday, Sept. 27

• Sacramento State’s Francisco Magana put the host Hornets on the scoreboard first, netting a goal in the 15th minute.
• CSUB forward Connor Mautino was taken down in the box in the 37th minute and the junior converted the penalty kick opportunity to tie the match at 1-1.
• Bakersfield enjoyed the majority of pressure and possession in the opening 45 as the `Runners outshot the Hornets 8-3 in the period.
• Sacramento State had a dangerous shot on target saved by CSUB’s Brandon Limes 10 minutes into the second half.
• Adrian Jogerst nearly found Bakersfield’s go-ahead goal in the 70th minute. The freshman sent a laser from outside the box that struck the crossbar as the match remain tied.
• While the `Runners dominated the game in terms of quality chances, Bakersfield had to settle for the road draw, extending its unbeaten streak to seven-straight matches.

 CSUB 1, CSUN 0 – Saturday, Sept. 30

• The `Runners went stride-for-stride in the road match at Northridge with the teams playing through a scoreless first half.
• Junior forward Connor Mautino gave the `Runners the game-winning goal in the 76th minute, converting a penalty kick opportunity.
  • Bakersfield native Shia Clayton (Foothill HS) was taken down in the box, setting up the opportunity.
• Goalkeeper Brandon Limes made three saves on the way to his fourth shutout of the season.
• CSUB outshot CSUN 16-12 in the match including a 12-4 advantage on shots on goal.
• Bakersfield’s defense came into the weekend ranked 12th in the country in Goals Against Average (0.667 goals allowed per game) and the clean sheet will bolster that stat line even further.
• The `Runners have now gone unbeaten over their last eight matches.

• The `Runners stayed unbeaten at home in the Big West with a shocking upset win over perennial Big West title contenders, Long Beach State, despite having been thoroughly beaten by CSUN earlier in the week.
• Jette Zimmer, Stevie Reynolds, and Hollee Hercik highlighted the team's 1-1 week. Zimmer contributed three total points with the opening 7th-minute goal as well as game-sealing assist, both against Long Beach State.
• Also against the Beach, Stevie Reynolds netted her first and second career CSUB goals, while Hollee Hercik nearly reset the single-game D1 program record for saves with 11 on the day.

 CSUB 0, CSUN 4 – Thursday, Sept. 28

• The `Runners played a forgetful match against the Matadors to kick off the week's slate, as CSUN made their most of its chances to take a definitive victory on Thursday.
• Each of the Matadors' goals were no more than fifteen minutes apart, with the first one coming just 22 minutes into the affair. Net-front chaose plagued the `Runners as defensive miscues in front of Hollee Hercik led to all but one of the goals being practically tap-ins during penalty area scrambles for the ball.
• While CSUB led shots in the second half and nearly evened CSUN's total through the game (11 SOG to 12 SOG), and the `Runners also had a 13-3 advantage on corner kicks, Northridge's Hayden Mauldin took home her second-straight Big West Goalkeeper of the Week honors with her stalwart defending during the match against Bakersfield.
• Karen Flores had the best of the opportunities for CSUB but could not quite find a way through, as CSUN would go on to put four total on the board for its first win of the season.

 CSUB 3, Long Beach State 0 – Sunday, Oct. 1

• A monumental effort from the entire Cal State Bakersfield Women’s Soccer team on Sunday afternoon led to a deserved first Big West victory against the visiting Long Beach State team, as the Roadrunners made the most of their chances to win 3-0.
• Bakersfield kicked off the game in glorious fashion, netting the game’s first goal in the seventh minute thanks to Jette Zimmer’s far post tap-in following a well-placed Dome Rodriguez header.
• CSUB’s early goal caused Long Beach State to up its game, deploying a much greater physicality as the Beach held most of the possession before a penalty in their box was called in Bakersfield’s favor.
  • Karen Flores had her penalty kick attempt saved, but Stevie Reynolds tracked the ball down and fit it into a tight window nearly at the side netting to bag her first career CSUB goal 33 minutes in.
• Long Beach State continued to barrage the CSUB half, but Hollee Hercik stood tall and made save-after-save to keep a clean sheet through the remainder of the first half.
• The Beach continued the possession dominance to open half number two, and in the 51st minute, Long Beach State was awarded a penalty kick. Hercik stonewalled the initial kick and follow-up point blank opportunity.
  • Just eleven minutes later, Stevie Reynolds headed in the assured game sealing goal from a perfectly placed Jette Zimmer corner.
• Despite playing on their back heels for the rest of the game with the Beach putting a whopping 11 shots-on-goal in the second half, the `Runners held on for their first win over Long Beach State in the D1 era while extending their home unbeaten streak in the Big West.

CSUB 1, UC Davis 3 – Friday, Sept. 29

• The Cal State Bakersfield Volleyball team was off to a great starting in the first set against UC Davis. Winning the set 25-23 with Breklyn Pulling leading the team.
• Bakersfield fought hard against Davis in set two, only to be beaten 29-27. The Aggies were able to swing momentum heavily in their favor at this point.
• UC Davis handedly dealt with CSUB in the next pair of sets, closing out the match with two straight 25-15 victories.  
• Freshman, Sydney Dunning showing out in her first start of the season, having 5.5 kills per set to finish top three on the team at 11 total kills in the game against UC Davis. 
• Offensively, Breklyn Pulling had a team high of 16 kills with a .483 attacking percentage.

CSUB 1, UC Riverside 3 – Saturday, Sept. 30

• In similar fashion to the previous day, the `Runners fought hard to take the first set. However, upon UC Riverside reorganizing, the Highlanders strung together three straight sets.
• Despite this, the `Runners still played UCR close, falling by just two points a-piece in the second and fourth sets.
• Bakersfield faced another tough loss, winning the first set 27-25, finishing out the game 3-1 Riverside. 
• Sophomore, Naomi Chankoumi had a match high of 11 kills in the game against UC Riverside averaging 3.6 kills a set.
• Breklyn Pulling showing out in the second game of the weekend, tying her season high of 7 blocks in a match.

• Sophomore Sarah Mutai led the Roadrunners for the third-straight tournament as CSUB closed out two days of competition in Washington.
• Bakersfield native Iris Han continues to be one of the top teams contributors as the sophomore finished second overall for the `Runners this week.

`Runners wrap up Harbottle Invitational

• Bakersfield battled through constant rain over two rounds of golf on Monday at the Seattle U's tournament.
  • Mutai led the `Runners with a 76 in Round 1 while Jefi Dordevic (77) and Han (78) were close behind.
  • In Round 2, Mutai was the only `Runner to finish in the 70s, carding a 79 at the end of a long day of competition.
• In Tuesday's final round, the `Runners posted their best 18-hole score of the tournament (307) by six strokes.
  • All five `Runners scored in the 70s, led by 75 from Dordevic.
• Four of five `Runners finished the tourney with their strongest rounds on Tuesday.
• Mutai finished the tournament as Bakersfield's leader with 233 strokes, just one ahead of Han.
