• UC Riverside played a tough non-conference schedule, but has since earned results in three of its last five matches.
• The `Runners leads the all-time series with the Highlanders, 7-3-3.
• UCR has won both matches against CSUB since the `Runners joined The Big West in 2021.
• A year ago, the Aggies outshot Bakersfield 21-5 on the way to a 2-0 victory.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s soccer team (3-8-4, 2-2-3 BW) took control of their own destiny over the weekend, taking a 1-0 victory against UC Santa Barbara in a must-win game to remain in playoff contention.
  • After moving into 6th-place, tied with UC Irvine, the Roadrunners have one less game remaining than most teams in the conference and will look to grab a few more points for an assured playoff spot.
• Having already eclipsed last year’s win total with the victory over UCSB, the `Runners will be looking to string together their first pair of wins since joining the Big West.
• Jette Zimmer is still producing an immense amount of shots for Bakersfield, contributing 2.67 shots-per-game, good for third in the conference.
• With a win over UC Irvine and a little help from other games happening in the conference, the `Runners could very well put themselves in prime position to secure a playoff spot by the final week of the season.

CSUB vs. UC Irvine (5-6-4, 2-2-3 BW)

• Thursday, Oct. 19, 7 p.m. (PT), Bakersfield, Calif.
• The `Runners and Anteaters have very little history to speak of, having only played each other once prior to being together in the Big West, as Bakersfield currently trails Irvine 0-2-1 in the all-time series.
• This is one of the most crucial matches to CSUB’s playoff chances, as whichever team takes victory has the chance to vault a few teams in the table and send the loser the other way.
• Both teams are coming off huge wins to tie each other at 9 points for 6th-place. Despite this, UCI still has a game-in-hand, and a win from CSUB is almost necessary to keep in the playoff race.
• The key to victory is for CSUB to suffocate Irvine’s scoring threat. Alyssa Moore is top-5 in the Big West for goals and points, while Desiree Mendoza and Tati Fung both share fourth place for assists.

• Sophomore Sarah Mutai reset Cal State Bakersfield's single-round record with a 3-under-par 69 in the team's season-opening tournament.
• Mutai tied for the team lead in scoring average last year and is pacing the `Runners again so far this season.
• Bakersfield native Iris Han continues to be one of the top `Runner contributors.
  • Han was a three-time Area Golfer of the Year during her prep career at Stockdale High School.
• New Head Coach Katy Barrett Baxter hit the ground running and continues to use her professional experience to help the team excel in the first half of the season.

• The 2023-24 season continues for Cal State Bakersfield after hosting a pair of home meets last weekend.
• On Opening Weekend, Chelaine Van der Westhuizen established herself as one of the Top 25 breaststrokers in the country.

• UC San Diego hosts the tri-meet in the San Diego area.
• The Tritons are fellow MPSF members with CSUB and then UCSD men and women finished fifth and second, respectively, at the conference Championships in 2023.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s volleyball team (6-14, 2-6 BW) hopes to use their momentum from their sweep on Cal State Fullerton in this upcoming week of games.
  • Bakersfield native, Ava Palm, leads the Roadrunners, ranking in the Big West in kills as well as points.
• The freshmen continues to make an impact on the court.
  • Sydney Dunning continues to impress, having a season high of 13 kills, with a .308 attacking percentage against the Titans.
  • Primary Setter, Nene Hawkins had double doubles in both games, against UC Irvine having 19 assists paired with 14 digs and against Cal State Fullerton having 37 assists paired with 12 digs.

• Senior, Tasia Farmer, leads the Gauchos after being named Big West Offensive Player of the Week, averaging 4.25 kills per set during this past weekend matches.
• Historically, UCSB leads the `Runners 5-1, playing only six times since 2016.

• Cal Poly and Bakersfield's history goes back to 1979, when we had our first match, playing 11 games since, with Cal Poly leading 9-2.
• The Mustangs are currently 5-3 in league play, having two players ranked In the Big West in kills, 5th Lizzy Markovaska and 8th Tommi Stockham.
• Stockham, leads the Mustangs, having 3.11 kills and 2.58 digs per set on the season.
