• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s soccer (2-7-4, 1-2-3 BW) sits at 7th-place in the conference, still well-within reach of a playoff spot as it stands today.
• The `Runners have solidified their lineup, now making on average one change to the starting eleven from match-to-match as opposed to four or five earlier in the season.
  • All but four of the team’s available student-athletes have played at least half of the games this season with Dome Rodriguez and Penny Smith making all 13 starts.
• After struggling offensively to start the season, with just 3 goals in August and 4 goals in September, the `Runners are off to a hot start in October with 5 goals while not even halfway through the month yet.
• Jette Zimmer remains the team’s points leader with 2 goals and 2 assists for 6 total points, as Stevie Reynolds and Dome Rodriguez are co-leader with Jette in goals.
• This weekend is important for Bernardo Silva, as both Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara are former teams of his, having coached for the Mustangs as well as coaching and playing for UCSB as an alum.

CSUB at Cal Poly (5-5-3, 3-1-1 BW)

• Thursday, Oct. 12, 7 p.m. (PT), San Luis Obispo, Calif.
• Cal Poly has gone unbeaten in its last three matches to tie with Hawai’i for second place in the Big West at 10 points.
• The Mustangs lean on the dangerous attacking duo of Jessie Holliday and Annika Smith, who each have ten points on the season and sit at eighth in the conference among individual players with that total.
• CSUB is 2-8 all-time against Cal Poly but pulled off an impressive 3-1 victory against the Mustangs last season, Bakersfield’s first victory over the Mustangs since 2009.
• On paper, Cal Poly sits middle-of-the-pack for most team statistical categories while splitting wins and losses evenly this year, giving the `Runners an opportunity to break up the unbeaten streak.

CSUB at UC Santa Barbara (3-5-7, 1-3-2 BW)

• Sunday, Oct. 15, 1 p.m. (PT) at Santa Barbara, Calif.
• UC Santa Barbara is currently in one of its poorest runs of form in recent memory, facing similar hardships to CSUB in-conference despite having beaten common non-conference opponents that Bakersfield fell to: LMU and Westmont College.
• Despite their record, the Gauchos sit firmly around the middle of the Big West in many statistical categories, including what they are best at in getting shots on goal.
  • Their most dangerous offensive player, Lauren Helwig, is fifth in the conference with over 2.5 shots-per-game on average.
• The `Runners are still looking for their first win against UCSB, down in the all-time series 0-9-3 to the Gauchos, but Bakersfield fought to a draw in last season’s contest.

• The Cal State Bakersfield men’s soccer (6-2-4, 2-1-1 BW) sits in second place in The Big West with five matches remaining before postseason play.
• CSUB reset its attendance record with 2,514 fans in attendance at last Wednesday’s Education Day game against UC Irvine.
• `Runner rookie Adrian Jogerst was named the Big West Freshman of the Week on Monday after scoring the game-winning goal in Bakersfield’s 2-0 victory over UCI.
• CSUB has received four Big West weekly honors this season: Jesse Wangusi (Freshman), Brandon Limes (Defensive), Luka Geishauser (Freshman), and Jogerst.
• The stout Roadrunner defense ranks first in The Big West and 12th in NCAA Division I with a 0.667 Goals Against Average.

 CSUB at UC Santa Barbara (7-5-1, 2-1-1 BW)

• Wednesday, Oct. 11, 7 p.m. (PT), Santa Barbara, Calif.
• The Gauchos are currently tied with CSUB and Cal Poly for second in The Big West standings.
• UCSB leads the all-time series against CSUB, 3-1-1.
• The Gauchos won the first Big West meeting between the two teams back in 2021.
• Last year in Bakersfield, the `Runners earned a draw against UCSB, which was ranked No. 24 in the country at the time.

 CSUB at UC San Diego (2-8-3, 1-2-1 BW)

• Saturday, Oct. 14, 7 p.m. (PT), La Jolla, Calif.
• UCSD started Big West play strong with four points, but the Tritons fell against two of the top teams in the league last week.
• CSUB’s all-time series with UCSD is tied 6-6-1.
• The two teams split their first two Big West meetings dating back to 2021, with both teams taking wins on the road.
• A year ago, the Tritons earned a 2-1 victory in Bakersfield.
• Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.

• The Cal State Bakersfield men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will kick off the 2023-24 season with a pair of home meets, Oct. 13-14.
• The Roadrunners are coming off a highly-successful 2022-23 season which saw the `Runners win five conference medals.
• With 2024 being an Olympic year, several `Runners are doubling down on training with aspirations of qualifying for National Trials and Olympic Trials.

CSUB Sprint Classic & Roadrunner Invite

• Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13-14
• Bakersfield, Calif. / Hillman Aquatic Center
• CSUB will host Cal Poly and UC Davis.
• Friday’s Sprint Classic will feature fast-paced action, including the fastest race in college swimming, the 50 Freestyle.
• On Saturday, the Roadrunner Invite has a wider range of distances.
• The divers will also compete both days, tackling the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.

• Admission is free for CSUB swim & dive home events. Parking is also free, in Lot I, starting 2 hours before CSUB Athletics home event.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s volleyball team (5-13, 1-5 BW) are heading on the road for Big West play this weekend after being home for the last two weeks.
• The Roadrunners team went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the conference, Long Beach State, taking the Beach to the fifth set but fell short in the tiebreaker, 15-9. 
• CSUB's primary setter, Nene Hawkins, had 73 assists over the weekend while averaging 8.11 assists-per-set as well as having four kills offensively. 
• Bakersfield Native, Ava Palm, moved up to 14th in the Big West conference for kills per set at 2.65 after being 17th previously at 2.51 kills per set.

 CSUB vs. UC Irvine (14-13, 2-4 BW)

• Friday, Oct., 6 p.m. (PT) at Irvine, Calif.
• UCI is currently 4-13 overall and 2-4 in the Big West conference coming off a sweep against Cal State Fullerton and a 0-3 loss against Hawai'i.
• Offensively, Hunter Riedl leads the team with 2.87 kills per set on the season paired defensively with Ella Gardiner who has .65 blocks per set for the season.
• Also playing her part defensively, is the sophomore libero, Campbell Jensen. She is currently ranked third in the Big West for dig per set at 4.14.
• Historically, UC Irvine leads Bakersfield 6-2.

 CSUB vs. Cal State Fullerton (1-14, 0-6 BW)

• Saturday, Oct. 12, 4 p.m. (PT) at Fullerton, Calif.
• Cal State Fullerton currently leads Bakersfield 5-3 all time, winning last year’s two matches (3-1, A 3-0, H). Since being in the Big West Bakersfield wont their first game against UC Irvine in 2021 with a full sweep.
• The Titans are ranked last in the league at 0-6 for the last three week, with a seasonal eight game lossin g streak.
• Despite the team's performance, Ameena Campbell, a freshman outside hitter, is ranked eighth in the Big West with 3.13 kills per set.
• Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women's cross country team is headed to NorCal for the Bronco Challenge on Saturday, Oct. 14.
• The women will race at 9:15 a.m with a 6k race around Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, Calif.
• The Bronco Challenge is one of the premier college meets throughout the country and will have high caliber competition.
• There will be a lot of familiar faces as Big West competitors will toe the line against the Roadrunners, joining Bakersfield are UC Davis, Cal Poly, UC Irvine, Long Beach State, and Hawai'i.
• Other notable schools competing are the University of San Fransisco, GCU, Stanford, Cal, Sac State, LMU, UNLV, Fresno State, San Jose State, and USC.
• Helena Valentic has cemented her name in the record books twice this season with the #5 all-time mark in the 5k and the #2 all-time mark in the 6k.
• Valentic looks to imrpove on her 6k time this weekend.
• The `Runners look to pull 2-3-4 runners closer together to imrpove their team scores.
