CSUB Swim and Dive Face Cal Poly for Final Away Meet

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – With the end-season tournaments on the horizon, the Cal State Bakersfield men's and women's swim and dive teams will travel over to the central coast for their final road meet at Cal Poly. The Roadrunners will hope to use the positives gained from their last two meet losses to put forth a valiant effort against yet another tough opponent in the Mustangs.

Quotes from Director of Swimming Chris Hansen
  • "Cal Poly against us is an even match. They are a great team, but it is going to be a very close meet on both sides. Ultimately, it should come down to who wants the victory more."
  • "For the men, versatility has become our strength. What events Vili Sivec, Jacob Folsom, Antonio Milin, or Yigit Saglam will end up swimming is something we have to be strategic about, but this is a good problem to have. Diving and relays will be a huge part of the men trying to gain victory."
  • "On the women's side, I expect it to also be a very close contest. To come out with a win, all of the women will need to play a big part in their own right. As usual, Mikayla Popham, Chelaine van der Westhuizen, Chloe Brown, and Jessica Franco will be our primary threats. Senior Madi Gray is finally back in action after her surgery, so this meet is perfect timing. We have crafted a lineup that I think could shock Cal Poly."
Weekend Schedule
  • at Cal Poly
  • Saturday, Jan. 7, 12 p.m.
  • San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Notables
  • Both the `Runner women and men most recently dropped results to UC San Diego. In what was already expected to be an uphill battle, according to Hansen, CSUB had a few individual swimmers star on the day. However, despite the men giving UCSD a scare with the close point differential, the `Runners could not quite pull out either win.
  • Standout men's team freshman Vili Sivec, as a result of his impressive performance against the Tritons, earned his second MPSF Swimmer of the Week honor. Sivec recorded individual victories in three freestyle events, including particularly fast times in the 200 (1:37.40) and 500 (4:30.38).
  • For the men, this meet against Cal Poly will be their final matchup against an individual opponent before the end-season championships start, but the women still have one final home meet against Fresno State later in January.
  • With the big meets coming up and the dual meets coming to an end soon, both of CSUB's teams will be looking to get back on track and attain their first dual wins since early November.
