CSUB Defeated by UCSB's Big Fourth Quarter Run

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Another Big West battle raged in the Icardo Center Saturday afternoon as the Cal State Bakersfield women's basketball team went toe-to-toe against UC Santa Barbara. The Roadrunners led their visitors for the majority of the game, but the Gauchos used a 13-0 fourth quarter run to earn a 56-52 victory on the road.

Notables
  • CSUB held a seven-point lead going into the fourth quarter, but UCSB answered back with a big run to take the lead.
  • The `Runners created an opportunity for the game-winning shot in the final seconds, but it did not go in as the Gauchos held on for another narrow victory against the `Runners.
  • Redshirt freshman Kayla Morris led the way for Bakersfield, tallying 11 points, six rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
  • Senior guard Taylor Caldwell led all `Runners with 13 points (6-12 FG) and four assists on Saturday.
  • Sophia Tougas chipped in 12 points in 35 minutes of action.
  • Bakersfield shot 42 percent from three-point range in the first half but went 1-for-7 from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes.
  • UCSB outscored CSUB 18-7 in the final period.
Quotes
  • "Hats off to UCSB, a team that's resilient and played well down the stretch. We knew that, especially from the first time we played them, and we know it was going to be a tough game, that we had to have everything go right for us. When the game plan doesn't go your way, you're going to have a tough time winning."
  • "On that last shot, Soli [Herrera] was one of our options, but we also had a few other players open. We ran that same play at their place when Kayla was in the game. This time, Soli wasn't open, and she didn't get off a good shot. That play is something we'll go back to the drawing board with. Regardless, I thought our girls did a really good job."
