Prince Joins CSUB Top 10 in Indoor Opener

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The CSU Bakersfield women's indoor track and field team opened the 2023 season with a solid set of results on Friday. The Roadrunners took on Northern Arizona's Axe 'Em Open and enjoyed a solid set of results highlighted by a Top 10 all-time CSUB performance in the weight throw by Kayla Prince.

Bakersfield placed fourth, fifth, and sixth in the weight throw. Jessi Solis, who came into the year already ranked eight for CSUB in the event, led the way with a mark of 49-07.25. Prince (48-08.75) and Madison King (46-03.50) were close behind.
Julia Stein was one place away from qualifying for the 60-meter hurdles, finishing ninth with a time of 9.19 seconds. Riley Slayton was close behind at 9.42.
Stein placed fourth in the 400m (59.64) while Julie Johnson was one spot back with a time of 1:01.24
Slayton finished fifth in the 600m, posting a 1:40.78 mark.
Helena Valentic finished Top 15 in the mile, crossing the line in 5:49.92.
Nerissa Thompson placed 17th in the 60m dash with a time of 7.94 seconds.
The CSUB 4x400 relay team placed second of three teams with a time of 4:09.10.
