Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

'Runners Slip Past Zags on Camara Header

Bakersfield – Sophomore defender Shammai Camara scored the game's only goal on a set piece and anchored a shutout effort from the California State University, Bakersfield backline, as the Roadrunners beat Gonzaga, Sunday night at the Main Soccer Field, for their second-consecutive victory. CSUB goalkeeper Filippo Dadone made a pair of saves to pick up his second win of the weekend.

"We knew tonight would be a grind and it went as we thought," said CSUB Head Coach Richie Grant. "Scoring the first goal of the match was going to be really important, and we were pleased to get the first goal after the started the game quite lively. This last week we've seen a better version of ourselves and a line-up that has started to come together."

First Half…
* Shammai Camara opened the scoring when he headed Jacob Fitzgerald's shallow corner kick across the box and underneath the bar at the far post in the 20th minute.
* The Roadrunners attempted five first half shots, putting three on goal and outcornered the Zags, 3-0.
* Filippo Dadone stopped the only Gonzaga shot on frame in the first half.

Second Half…
* Filippo Dadone made the save of the night in the 54th minute, diving back to the near post and getting his fingertips on a Bulldog shot to just push the ball wide of the post.
* The Zags threatened again in the 74th minute, earning a penalty in the 18-yard box. Frankie Ljucovic outguessed Dadone but pushed his PK attempt off the right goalpost to keep the score 1-0.
* Bakersfield outshot Gonzaga 6-3 in the second half, including two more shots on goal.

Notable…
* Shammai Camara's goal was the first of his CSUB career, he was assisted on the play by the first helper of Jacob Fitzgerald's tenure with the 'Runners.
* Filippo Dadone made two more saves, continuing an early season run of exceptional play. He finished the weekend 2-0-0 and made eight saves on nine chances.
* Stephon Marcano led the 'Runners with two shots on goal off the bench.
* The two teams combined for seven cautions, including four for CSUB and three for Gonzaga.
