Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

`Runners Split a Pair of 4-Set Matches in Washington

PULLMAN, Wash. – Cal State Bakersfield split a pair of hard-fought matches to open the Cougar Challenge on Friday. The Roadrunner volleyball team came from behind to defeat former Western Athletic Conference rival California Baptist 3-1 in the morning session before dropping a 3-1 battle against Pac-12 foe Washington State Friday night.

Quotes from Head Coach Giovana Melo
  • "Against California Baptist, we didn't pass well in the first game. We knew if we could play in our system, we have the caliber of hitters that can put the ball away."
  • "Hayley McCluskey and Lizzie Binder were being patience when the set was not there and going for it when they had what they wanted in front of them. We were able to score a lot of points when we were in our system."
  • "The biggest thing that helped us win Set 3 against Washington State was our serve and pass. We put some pressure on them and put them out of their system. They were a very physical team and when we didn't serve well it was a lot harder to defend them."
  • "The cool thing about our team is that we have so many good players. Our depth is really good, so anyone can come in and play like Ava Palm and Naomi Chankomi did tonight…Everyone needs to be ready. We call ourselves the Power 16 for a reason because we think everyone can contribute."
