Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

CSUB Downs Belmont to Finish Weekend 2-1

PULLMAN, Wash. – Behind a well-rounded offensive effort and strong play on the back line, the Roadrunner volleyball team closed out the Cougar Challenge with a 2-1 record after defeating Belmont 3-1 on Saturday. For their standout efforts, junior libero Paige Calvin and redshirt freshman Lizzie Binder earned All-Tournament honors.

Bakersfield won two of three matches this weekend, downing California Baptist 3-1 on Friday morning before dropping a four-set match against Washington State last night. Calvin averaged 4.2 digs per set on the back row over the tournament while Binder tallied 37 kills for a 3.1 kill per set average.

Quotes from Head Coach Giovana Melo
  • "I thought in the first set we were a little more focused on our serve and pass. I thought we lost a little focus in that skill in Set 2, especially our passing."
  • "The third set was the best we played. We served really well that game and we were pretty loose. It put Belmont in a hard situation and we were able to continuously side out."
  • "The exciting part of our team is that we really can expect anyone to come in and do a good job. I thought Naomi Chankoumi did a good job last night and today she performed again. We're still trying to figure out what we really are going to look like when the Big West matches start."
