Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Runner Women Draw in Final Non-Conference Game

Bakersfield – Each team converted on a pair of set pieces, as California State University, Bakersfield and Sacramento State finished in a 2-2 tie, Sunday afternoon at the Main Soccer Field. Karen Flores and Hildur Jonasdottir both scored for the Roadrunner women, who closed non-conference competition with a 3-5-1 overall record.

"We're a little disappointed in giving up those two goals on set pieces. They have a quality taker, but it's disappointing because those chances are all we conceded all game long," said CSUB Head Coach Sebastian Vecchio. "We're playing better, but we need to continue to learn, get minutes for several new players and work to find consistency as a group."

1st Half...
* Sacramento State's Aubrey Goodwill stepped into a direct kick from 25 yards out and drilled a perfect strike into the upper left side of the goal to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
* Bakersfield tied the game on a set piece of their own in the 16th minute when Regielly Halldorsdottir's blast was cleaned up in by forward Karen Flores at the goal mouth.
* The Roadrunners made it 2-0 on a nearly identical play just two minutes later, this time defender Solei Moton took the free kick and Hildur Jonasdottir pounced on the rebound to make it 2-0.
* Goodwill scored her second goal of the half on another free kick opportunity in the 21st minute, driving a low line drive shot into the lower right corner of the net to even the score at two.
* CSUB outshot the Hornets 12-5 and boasted a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
* Twenty-three Roadrunners played first-half minutes, including goalkeepers Hollee Hercik and Flavia Burrell. Burrell came on in the 32nd minute after Hercik was banged up diving to corral a loose ball.

2nd Half...
* Bakersfield outshot Sacramento State 6-2 in the second half, but neither team managed to put a shot on goal in the frame.
* The 'Runners threatened in the final minute with a pair of chances. First Kaylee Covert worked her way from the corner flag to the edge of the six yard box, only to see her shot blocked aside at the near post. Moments later Nicola Lebakos dribbled through the Hornet defense before shooting just wide of the right post.
* The Hornets upped the physicality in the second half, committing 10 fouls to Bakersfield's two.

Notable...
* Twenty-four Roadrunners appeared in Sunday's game with Sacramento State, with 21 different players posting 25 minutes or more.
Hildur Jonasdottir's goal was her first as a Roadrunner. The midfielder from Kopavogur, Iceland has appeared in all nine games this season, starting six.
Regielly Halldorsdottir has created three goals off set pieces this season for Bakersfield. Halldorsdottir picked up an assist today, after scoring on free kicks against UNLV and Boise State, and leads CSUB with seven points this season.
* Goalkeeper Flavia Burrell played the final 59 minutes stopping the long shot on goal she faced.

Up Next...
The Roadrunners finished their non-conference slate with a record of 3-5-1 and will now turn their attention entirely to Big West Conference play. CSUB travels south this week to face Long Beach State and UC Irvine on Thursday and Sunday, respectively. Both games will kick off at 6 p.m.
