Former `Runner Taze Moore to Play in NBA Summer League

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The California State University, Bakersfield men's basketball program learned Friday that Roadrunner alumnus Taze Moore has agreed to a deal to play in the 2022 NBA Summer League with the Brooklyn Nets.

"We are very proud of Taze and everything he has overcome and accomplished," said Rod Barnes, Head Coach of the CSUB men's basketball team. "In Taze's five years in Bakersfield, he left a lasting mark on our program. We will continue rooting for him as he starts this new journey."

Joining fellow CSUB alum Tyrell Corbin, Moore became just the second former `Runner to be invited to the NBA Summer League, an 11-day competition that affords young players the opportunity to impress NBA executives and coaches while playing among elite talent. Former Summer League MVPs include eventual NBA stars such as Blake Griffin, John Wall, Damian Lillard, and Lonzo Ball.

A native of Southaven, Miss., Moore came to Bakersfield in 2016 as a true freshman and developed into an All-Big West performer by the time he graduated, leading CSUB in most statistical categories in his final two seasons as a `Runner. From his high-flying dunks and blocks to the big smile frequently found on his face, Moore's time in Bakersfield is fondly remembered by many supporters of CSUB basketball.

After receiving a bachelor's degree from CSUB, Moore traveled to Texas to use his final year of eligibility, granted because of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the University of Houston men's basketball team. He continued shining and became an integral part of the Cougar squad that pulled off two upsets in March Madness on the way to an Elite 8 appearance. Moore tied a nice bow on his collegiate career by winning the 2022 College Slam Dunk competition.

With all the accolades and accomplishments under his belt, Moore's journey led him to an opportunity to compete for a spot on an NBA team. Bakersfield has now seen two `Runners accomplish this feat during the Rod Barnes Era (since 2011-12). Another former `Runner, Kebu Stewart, is the only NBA Draft pick in the program's history after his second-round selection in the 1997 draft.

Fans interested in heading to Las Vegas to root for Moore as he takes on the rest of the NBA's top young talent can find the NBA Summer League schedule here.
