`Runners Set for Weekend Series at UCSB

BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. – The CSU Bakersfield Softball team has another great test this weekend as they travel to UC Santa Barbara for a Big West road series. The three-game series takes place on Apr. 8 and 9 at Campus Diamond.

The Roadrunners will take on the Gauchos (10-24, 2-7 Big West), who won their first game at Cal Poly last weekend then dropped the final two. CSUB and UCSB have met 37 times, with the Gauchos leading the all-time series 26-11. The last contest between the two was in 2019, when the `Runners won by a score of 4-3 in their season opener.

"Every weekend we get closer and better as a team," said Crissy Buck-Ziegler, Bakersfield's Head Coach. "This weekend is another tough matchup but I feel like we are ready to break out."

CSUB (6-21, 1-8 Big West) has faced three quality Big West teams so far in UC Davis, Cal State Fullerton, and UC San Diego. The `Runners have already seen some of the league's top competition and look to gain some momentum in Santa Barbara this weekend.

Bakersfield continues to look to sixth-year senior Cydney Curran to lead the way on offense. The shortstop boasts a team-high .329 batting average, but junior college transfer Laela Minnich has been heating up. A versatile player filling the lineup in multiple positions, Minnich leads all `Runners with a .267 in Big West games.
