`Runners and 'Bows Set for 3 Games in Paradise

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Four weekends remain in the 2022 regular season for the CSU Bakersfield softball team and the Roadrunners are headed back out on the road to start the final month. CSUB has another Big West Conference series lined up this weekend, Apr. 22-23, against the Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine.

While this weekend's three-game series in Honolulu features Bakersfield's first conference games against Hawai'i, the two teams actually met two months ago on Opening Weekend. In the final game of UNLV's Rebel Kickoff Classic, the 'Bows built a 6-1 lead and held on for a 7-5 win over CSUB.

"We have seen Hawai'i's hitters and a couple of their pitchers, which should help us prepare," said Crissy Buck-Ziegler, Bakersfield's Head Coach. "We are looking forward to continuing our journey this season through the Big West. Each week brings on a new challenge. We have to continue preparing for those opportunities to get the 'Win' and have more productive at bats to compete."

One of Bakersfield's most unfamiliar foes, UH has only shown up on CSUB's schedule twice all-time. Before this season's previous meeting, the `Runners played the Rainbow Wahine during the 2013 season in Bakersfield. UH earned an 8-1 victory in that first-ever contest.

CSUB (8-25, 3-12 Big West) is coming off a tough weekend after running into a hot Cal Poly squad. The `Runners were swept by the Mustangs on their home field and will be looking to regain momentum in Honolulu this weekend. In the Cal Poly series, freshman Shaylene Fuimaono paced CSUB with a .400 batting average while also blasting her first collegiate home run.

Hawai'i (15-15, 9-6 Big West) earned a 2-1 series win over UC Riverside on the road last weekend. UH enjoys a trio of 'Bows batting at .300 or higher on the year in Maya Nakamura (.337), Ka'ena Keliinoi (.316), and Nawai Kaupe (.300). In the circle, Briana Lopez and her 2.13 ERA is the go-to option for UH Head Coach Bob Coolen.

The weekend series begins on Friday, Apr. 22, with a single game set for 9 p.m. (PT). On Saturday, the `Runners and 'Bows will close the series with a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. (PT). While there will be no video broadcasts for this series, fans can follow along via live stats or live updates @CSUB_Softball on Twitter.
