Hawai'i Bests Bakersfield in Series Finale

Bakersfield, Calif. - Hawai'i erupted for 17 hits en route to a 20-6 win and a three-game series sweep over host CSU Bakersfield, Saturday afternoon at Hardt Field. Roadrunner defenders committed a school-record eight errors, losing for the sixth time in ten games and falling to 14-19 overall, including a 7-5 mark in Big West play. Hawai'i won four the eighth straight time, improving to 16-16 overall and 9-6 in league action.

The two teams played to a scoreless first period, before the Rainbow Warriors broke the game open scoring all 20 of their runs over the next four-plus frames, including one run in the second inning and five more in the third before exploding for 11 runs during a lengthy top half of the fourth. Five separate `Bows recorded multiple hit games, led by Dallas Duarte's four and Stone Miyao's three. Miyao led UH with six RBI, including a fourth-inning grand slam.

Bakersfield battled back in the late innings, scoring five times in their final two at bats before running out of outs in the ninth. Shortstop Aaron Casillas finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI, while first-baseman Aaron Perez recorded three hits, including a pair of doubles.

Perez is seven for his last sixteen with four doubles, three RBI and three runs scored, while Casillas has recorded at least one RBI in five straight games and nine of his last eleven.

Right hander David Roderick made his first career start, and took the loss, pitching for just the second time in three seasons after suffering an injury in 2019 while at Oklahoma. Relievers Taylor Ott and Kenny Johnson combined to allow just a single unearned run over the final five innings.

Bakersfield will play a single game at Pepperdine on Tuesday, Apr. 19, before returning to Hardt Field and Big West Conference play on Friday, Apr. 22 to kick off a three-game series with UC San Diego.
