Rich Reaches Second-Straight NCAA Championships with Runner-Up Finish at Pac-12 Tournament

Tempe, Ariz. – Chance Rich upset #12 Devan Turner to clinch a second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and earned a runner-up finish in the 133-pound weight class for the second consecutive season, to lead CSU Bakersfield at the Pac-12 Championships at Arizona State's Desert Financial Arena. Three more Roadrunners grabbed podium finishes as CSUB placed fifth with 83.0 team points.
 
Rich's qualification extends Bakersfield's streak of sending at least one wrestler to nationals to 48 seasons. Nationally ranked teammates, Angelo Martinoni and Albert Urias will await NCAA At-Large selections later this week.
 
Rich earned his trip to Detroit, Mich., when he knocked off Oregon State's Turner, 3-1, with a takedown in the second sudden victory period. He beat Little Rock's Jaylen Carson 6-1 in the opening round.
 
Rich's championship run came to an end with a 7-2 loss to eventual champion Michael McGee (Arizona State). McGee avenged a 2021 semifinal loss to Rich, to take home his first conference title.
 
Jacob Hansen (184), Josh Loomer (197) and Jacob Sieder (285) all placed third in their respective weight classes with 3-1 records.
 
Hansen posted victories over Little Rock's Tanner Mendoza (6-5), Stanford's Nick Addison (2-0) and Arizona State's Josh Nummer (13-4), while dropping his semifinal match-up with Oregon State's Trey Munoz.
 
Loomer pinned a pair of opponents, including Stanford's Nick Stemmet in the third-place bout. He also stuck Cal Poly's Trent Tracy in the opening round and posted a 6-3 decision over Little Rock's Brooks Sacharczyk.
 
Sieder nearly upset #9 Gary Traub (OSU) in the semi-finals, but Traub held on to the ridetime point and bounced the `Runner heavyweight, 6-5. The 285-pounder completed the comeback in the consolation semifinals when he trailed by scores of 7-2 and 9-4, before shocking Cal Poly's Samuel Aguilar for an 11-9 win. He bested Little Rock's Josiah Hill in major decision fashion to clinch third.
 
Angelo Martinoni (141), Brock Rogers (157) and Albert Urias (174) were both 2-2 on the day, placing fourth. Martinoni and Urias both lost third-place bouts to opponents they had beaten handedly in the opening rounds.
 
Eddie Flores (125), Josh Brown (149) and Augustine Garcia (165) all finished sixth.  
 
The 2022 National Championship will begin March 17, at Little Caesar's Arena in Detroit, Mich.
