UCI Shoots Past CSUB in Regular-Season Finale

IRVINE, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball could not find enough offensive power to swing an upset at UC Irvine Saturday afternoon. The Roadrunners didn't have many scoring options outside of Jayden Eggleston and Andie Easley and fell to the Anteaters in the regular-season finale, 52-67.

Eggleston and Easley were the only `Runners to score in double figures in the contest with 19 and 16 points, respectively. It was also Eggleston who paced Bakersfield on the glass pulling down a team-high seven rebounds.

The first quarter was knotted at four points each before UC Irvine went on a 13-1 run and CSUB found itself down, 5-17. The Roadrunners would bring the scoring gap within single digits ahead of the second period trailing nine points, 10-19.

The Anteaters put up 20 team points in the second quarter to build a double figure lead, 25-39. Jayden Eggleston was the only `Runner with more than 10 points at half time leading all scorers with 15 points. She was 6-of-10 from the field while the rest of the team went 3-of-16.

Bakersfield showed signs of a turnaround in the start of the third period behind a 6-0 run bringing the game within eight, 31-39. UCI withstood CSUB's early scoring run and rebuilt a comfortable 14-point lead at the end of the third, 52-38.

UC Irvine led by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter finding success from behind the three-pooint line, but the Roadrunners did not quit. The women continued to attack the Anteaters looking to close the deficit as much as possible. UCI would earn the Big West series sweep over Bakersfield with the, 67-52, win.

Up next, the women (4-19, 3-11 Big West) head to Henderson, Nevada for a First-Round matchup Tuesday afternoon at the Dollar Loan Center. The Roadrunners must win to stay in the Big West Tournament and keep hopes of an NCAA Tournament berth alive.
