`Runners Ready for Five Games in Four Days

BAKERSFIELD, CALIF.  – The CSUB Softball team faces a busy week ahead, as the `Runners will host Santa Clara on Thursday, Mar. 31, in a non-conference doubleheader before another Big West road series at UC Davis on Apr. 2 and 3.

Bakersfield will host Santa Clara (14-18) for their final two non-conference games this season.  In their last game, the Broncos beat North Dakota by a score of 9-1. `The Runners have also played North Dakota this year, splitting a doubleheader against them a few weeks ago.

"Facing Santa Clara on Thursday is going to be a great challenge for us," said Crissy Buck-Ziegler, Bakersfield's Head Coach.  "They're very scrappy.  They play solid defense and are going to find ways to score runs."

The `Runners will then travel to northern California for a three-game series with UC Davis (14-16) on Saturday and Sunday.  The Aggies recently halted their five-game losing streak, picking up wins against Long Beach State and Pacific last week.

"UC Davis is always a strong hitting ballclub, but I think our pitchers are going to be ready for them.  I also think we're going to really open up this weekend offensively.

Bakersfield has been making positive improvements, despite their record. CSUB looks to continue developing their players with valuable experience over these contests.

"We're a young team. We have 16 brand new individuals to Division 1.  They get stronger as the games and the weekend goes on," said Buck-Ziegler.  "I'm liking where we're at.  I think we're moving in a very positive direction."

Fans are invited to come out to the Roadrunner Softball Complex on Thursday with tickets available at the gate or ahead of time at GoRunners.com/Tickets.  First pitch is at 12 p.m., with the second game to start 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.

All five games this week will be broadcasted live on ESPN+. Links to broadcasts, live stats, tickets and more are all available at GoRunners.com/Live.
