Bakersfield, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield rallied for two in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Utah Valley plated seven in the top of the tenth to finish off a 14-8 win in the series finale between the two teams and earn a series split at Hardt Field, Sunday afternoon. The Roadrunners lost early leads of 4-0 and 5-1, and slipped to 10-13 overall, while the Wolverines improved to 8-16. Bakersfield remains 3-0 in Big West Conference play and finds itself alone in first-place, as the league's last unbeaten, heading into a conference series with Cal State Fullerton, beginning Friday.
Andrew Allanson continued his torrid week at the plate, wrapping up the series with a 3-for-3 performance, including a triple and a pair of intentional walks. It was Allanson who sent the game to extras with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth, scoring James Bell. AJ Miller added a pair of hits and shortstop Aaron Casillas drove in three runs while making his first appearance of the weekend.
The Wolverines were led at the plate by Mick Madsen and Kyle Coburn. Madsen had four hits, including a pair of doubles, while Coburn finished 3-for-6, including a 10th-inning grand slam to put the game away for the visitors.
Kayler Yates moved from shortstop to the mound in the ninth and earned his first win of the season. Ryan Verdugo took the loss for CSUB, despite striking out a pair and allowing just one hit in 0.2 innings of relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1...
B2 | Bakersfield scored four times in the bottom of the second, beginning with Andrew Allanson's long triple to right-center field. Allanson missed his sixth home run of the week by just inches as his drive caromed off the top of the wall back into center field. He would score, along with Jashia Morrissey, two batters later on Aaron Casillas' seventh double of the season. Evan Rice would add a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
T4 | Trey Cutchen singled, advanced to third on Mick Madsen's double and scored on a sacrifice fly from Copper Hansen to put Utah Valley on the board.
B5 | Morrissey answered in the fifth with a sacrifice fly of his own, scoring AJ Miller who doubled into right field to lead off the inning.
T7 | Utah Valley drew even in the top of the seventh, plating single runs on a hit batsman and a fielder's choice, and two more on Madsen's second double of the day.
T8 | Mitch Moralez gave the Woverines their first lead of the day with an RBI double in the eighth and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Cole Jordan.
B9 | CSUB forced extra innings when Miller and Allanson drove in runs in the ninth. Miller singled in Nick Salas with one out and Allanson followed with a sacrifice fly and his 16th RBI of the week.
T10 | The Wolverines erupted for seven runs in the tenth, highlighted by Kyle Coburn's second home run of the season, a grand slam over the fence in left to make it 14-7.
B10 | Bakersfield got one in the bottom of the inning, on Brock Perreira's pinch-hit single, but could get no closer and fell by a 14-8 margin.
NOTABLE...
• Andrew Allanson finished an incredible week with 10 hits in 18 at bats, including five home runs and a triple to go with 16 runs driven in. Allanson also scored seven times and walked on three occasions, twice intentionally. He hit a home run in four of the five Bakersfield games and failed to reach base at least three times in just one.

Bakersfield returns to Big West Conference action when they welcome Cal State Fullerton to Hardt Field, beginning on Friday, Apr. 1 at 6:05 p.m. The two schools will meet for the first time as conference opponents, after last season's four-game series in Fullerton was canceled. The Roadrunners are 3-0 in league play, while CSUF enters 8-14 overall and 4-2 in the Big West.
