Career Highs Fuel Big West Win Over Fullerton

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Behind a pair of career-highs and three double figure scorers, the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team earned its first Big West Conference win Saturday. The Roadrunners held on against Cal State Fullerton defeating the Titans, 76-74.

Jayden Eggleston tallied her first double-double on the year with a career-high 29 points and 11 rebounds. Andie Easley also had a career-high in points against Fullerton scoring 20 including three threes. Vanessa Austin rounded out the `Runners double figure scorers with 18 points and outrebounded all but Eggleston with nine boards.

CSUB and Cal State Fullerton traded baskets most of the first five minutes of the first period as the Roadrunners found themselves up, 9-8. The rest of the quarter went similar, but the Titans led, 20-19.

Bakersfield had built a five point, 25-20, lead in the first two and a half minutes of the second period before CSF scored. Fullerton retook the lead from the free throw line with 6:19 left in the quarter. Austin's pair of free throws put the `Runners back on top, 30-29, with 3:20 and fueled a 5-1 run as CSUB led, 35-30, at half time.
Jayden Eggleston had game-highs in points and rebounds at halftime with 12 and 7.

The Titans led 43-40 midway through the third quarter. A pair of free throws from Easley put the `Runners back on top, 44-43. An and-one converted to a 3-point play from Easley's made free throw lifted the `Runners, 49-47. CSF tied the game again from the charity stripe, but Eggleston would have the last say in the period. She missed her first attempt at the rim but was able to tip in her miss at the buzzer to give CSUB a 51-49 lead.

Fullerton led 59-58 mid way through the fourth quarter. A pair of made free throws from Eggleston out of the media timeout (4:37) brought the `Runners within one, 61-60. Down two, Easley made a pair of free throws to lift CSUB, 66-65 with under 2:30 left in the game. Bakersfield led 71-67 with 1:03 left.  The Titans would outscore the Roadrunners 6-5 in the final 63 seconds of the fourth, but the `Runners would still come out on top,  76-74.

Up next, the women (2-13, 1-5 Big West) will hit the road for a pair of conference games at UC Santa Barbara (2/10) and CSUN (2/12).
