`Runners on a Roll, Defeating Cal Poly 85-71

Five players score double figures behind Andie Easley.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball continue to roll in the right direction earning their second-straight Big West Conference win against Cal Poly Thursday night. The Roadrunners had five players finish in double figures behind Andie Easley's 20 points and five assists in, 85-71, win over the Mustangs.

Easley matched her career-high 20 points sinking a game-high four three-pointer and matched Tatyanna Clayburne in assists with five. Clayburne was another `Runner who hit double figures chipping in 10 points against CP. Jayden Eggleston chalked up a double-double scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Vanessa Austin was a pair of boards from her own double-double finishing with 13 and eight while Miracle Saxon rounded out the group with 12 points on the evening.

CSUB enjoyed a 5-0 run to start the first quarter. Cal Poly would take the lead midway through the period, 10-8, not backing down to the Roadrunners. CP led by three, 15-12, in the last two minutes but would not score the remainder of the period. Bakersfield used a 4-0 run in the final two minutes of the quarter to take the lead, 16-15.

A pair of free throws from Eggleston tied the game, 20-20, three and a half minutes into the second. CSUB would retake the lead, 29-28, ahead of the three-minute mark. Down, 31-32, with one and a half left the Roadrunners would fall short regaining the lead. CP outscored the `Runners, 5-2, down the final stretch of the second quarter to lead at halftime, 37-33.

Roadrunners outplayed the Mustangs 8-2 to start the third tying the contest, 39-39. The score would be tied twice more before CSUB began to pull away. Bakersfield led by as much as seven points in the third quarter but went in the final period holding a 57-53 advantage.

Bakersfield led by 11 points, 64-53, two and a half minutes into the fourth quarter before the Mustangs brought it back within single digits. An 11-2 run fueled a comfortable lead for CSUB who led, 75-63, in the last two minutes of the game. Bakersfield outscored the Mustangs 28-18 in the period and would thwart any attempted CP rally earning the fourteen-point win.

The women (4-16, 3-8 Big West) will play one final home contest this Thursday welcoming Hawai' to the Icardo Center for a 7 p.m. tip. Five seniors will be recognized ahead of the game for Senior Night including, Vanessa Austin, Andie Easley, Jayden Eggleston, Jasmin Dixon, and Miracle Saxon.
