D'Arcy Wins Again, Popham Grabs Title in 100 Free on Final Day of MPSF Championship Meet

SAN GABRIEL – Autumn D'Arcy won her second individual title of the weekend, and Mikayla Popham garnered her first, on a thrilling final day at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships for CSU Bakersfield swimming and diving. The Roadrunner men and women each finished the championships in sixth place, with 265 and 310 points, respectively.

"We had great swims all weekend and that continued today and into this evening," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "Autumn and Mikayla turned in their best swims of the championship, and the total number of men and women we had in finals tonight shows the depth we've developed over the course of this season."

D'Arcy shaved nearly a full second of off her previous personal best time, resetting her own school record in winning the 200 Butterfly. She won the 100 Butterfly on Friday evening and finished the weekend as CSUB's top point scorer.

Popham swam a 49.82 to win the 100 Freestyle. She was the second seeded swimmer after the morning preliminary heats but was three tenths of a second faster in the evening swim to edge UC San Diego's Ciara Franke.

Freshman breaststroker Danielle Albright and senior freestyler Ariane Skeggs also raced in A-Finals, Saturday evening, for the Bakersfield women. Albright placed fifth in the 200 Breaststroke, while Skeggs was sixth in the 1650 Freestyle.

On the men's side, Antonio Milin finished 11th in the 200 Breaststroke, leading a quartet of `Runners into the evening finals. Freshman Christoph Horky was 12th in the event, followed by Carter Walles in 15th and Skyler Carmelich in 17th.

Ryan Brimer and Kris Rogic also raced well for the Bakersfield men. Brimer was 12th in the 100 Freestyle (44.88), while Rogic placed 15th in the 200 Backstroke (1:49.96).

The CSUB women placed 3rd in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:26.09, while the men were sixth in 3:00.21. Both times were season bests.

Notable –
* D'Arcy's now boasts seven individual conference championships in three seasons at CSUB, including a 100 Butterfly title at all three of her league championship meets.
* Popham won her third career conference title and posted her third top-four finish of the 2022 Championships. The Sunshine Coast, Australia native was second in the 50 Freestyle and fourth in the 200 Freestyle.
* Six Roadrunners swam in C-Finals of the 100 Backstroke, including women Leah Kirkman, Jessica Franco and Maria Wold and men Julio Alcantar, Lars Hanna and Tyler LeDet.
* Linus Richter was 22nd in the men's 100 Freestyle.
* Courtney Linton and Skyler Robinson placed 23rd and 24th in the 200 Breaststroke, respectively.
* Nick Dobusch, Loren Gillilan and Alex Rodriguez all had evening swims in the men's 200 Butterfly.

Bakersfield continues its post-season run with a trip to the National Invitational Championships in Elkhart, Ind., from Mar. 10-13. The NIC offers one last shot to swimmers hoping to reach the NCAA Championships the following week in Atlanta, Ga.
