Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eggleston Passes 1,000 Career Points in 84-75 Win Over UCD

CSUB welcomed 45 girls from ShePower in honor of NGWSD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Behind four double figure scorers led by Jayden Eggleston's 27 points, CSU Bakersfield women's basketball won its second Big West contest against UC Davis Saturday afternoon. The Roadrunners have now won two of their last five conference games with the, 84-75, victory over the Aggies.

Eggleston was two-points shy of matching her career-high, but still made history becoming the program's 6th player to score 1,000 career points and grab 500 career rebounds. Andie Easley was the `Runners' next top scorer with 17 points while Vanessa Austin finished close behind with 16. Miracle Saxon would round out CSUB's double-digit scorers with 10 points on the afternoon.

Bakersfield led by four, 10-6, midway through the first period. The Roadrunners held on to their lead in the next couple of minutes maintaining a, 12-10, lead ahead of the quarter's final three minutes. The Roadrunners keep the light switch on and led, 20-15, at the end of the first. Eggleston, who needed just four points to reach 1,000, surpassed the milestone with five points in the period.

The `Runners had built a 10-point, 25-15, lead in the first couple minutes of the second quarter. The Aggies would cut into the lead, but the Roadrunners would remain up, 33-25, with 4:38 remaining in the half. CSUB led by seven, 38-31, in the last minute and a half holding UCD to one free throw to lead, 40-32, into the locker rooms. Easley led the team with 11 points while Eggleston had nine and Austin had six points.

A 9-2 UC Davis run to start the third period brought the game within one quickly, 42-41. CSUB would call a timeout to try and slow down the run with 6:23 left in the period – and do just that. Five-straight points out of the timeout gave the `Runners a, 47-41, lead just and some breathing room ahead of the media (4:53). The Aggies would rally again  down two points with under two minutes before a 3-point play from Austin made it, 54-49. UCD would close the third with a 6-2 run bringing the game within one, 56-55, going into the fourth.

CSUB extended the scoring gap leading by six points, 63-57, a couple minutes into the fourth. The Aggies would use the next two minutes and bring the game within two points nearing the four-minute mark. The Roadrunners would not let up as Easley's timely triple put the `Runners up, 70-65. Eggleston followed up with a 3-point play that lifted CSUB, 73-65, with a couple of minutes left in the contest. Bakersfield would manage the clock well and edge UCD 11-10 down the final stretch to earn for the nine-point, 84-75, win.

The women (3-16, 2-8 Big West) remain home for their final pair of Big West home games this upcoming Tuesday (Cal Poly, 2/22) and Thursday (Hawai'i 2/24). Five players (Andie Easley, Vanessa Austin, Jayden Eggleston, Jasmin Dixon, and Miracle Saxon) will each be recognized in Thursday's Senior Night ceremony.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day

A group of around 45 elementary and middle school aged girls from local nonprofit, ShePower, attended the women's game following a campus tour and lunch in honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. A photo gallery is available at the top of the story.
