D'Arcy, Popham Lead CSUB Women on Day Two

SAN GABRIEL – Autumn D'Arcy and Mikayla Popham earned second-place finishes, while Kristofer Rogic and Ariane Skeggs added finals swims for CSU Bakersfield on day two of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, Thursday, at the East Los Angeles College Swim Stadium in San Gabriel, Calif.
 
"We woke up excited and that carried over to our swims today," said CSUB Director of Swimming and Diving Chris Hansen. "Rani, Jessie and Hannah posted great times in the 500 and that momentum carried throughout the day for our entire team. We scored our points and made great strides in the standings."
 
The Roadrunner women and men both sit in sixth place after the meet's second day, with 127 and 97 points, respectively.
 
D'Arcy and Popham combined to finish less than half a second off the pace for a pair of Bakersfield victories.
 
D'Arcy was runner-up in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.74, just .08 seconds behind eventual champion Katja Pavicevic of UC San Diego. The CSUB senior shaved 1.34 seconds off her time from the morning preliminaries.
 
Popham grabbed second in the 50 Freestyle with a personal best time of 23.03, seven tenths of a second faster than her old standard and .35 seconds behind the winner.
 
Skeggs was eighth in the 500 Freestyle in 4:57.42 and Rogic was eighth in the 200 IM with his time of 1:51.61.
 
In the diving competitions, Dyson Modica posted a 10th-place finish in the 1-Meter board and Maya Stefanski was 16th in the 3-Meter competition.
 
Notable –
* Popham matched her personal best time in the 50 Freestyle in the morning prelims (23.10), before setting a new standard time with her finals swim.
* D'Arcy posted a 23.01 opening split in the 200 Freestyle Relay to leapfrog Popham for second all-time at CSUB by just .02 seconds.
* Skeggs posted a new personal best in the prelims of the 500 Freestyle with a 4.55.71.
* Jessica Franco, Hannah Marsh and Adrian Paseta reached the evening consolation finals of the 500 Freestyle.
* Four CSUB men joined Rogic for Thursday night swims in the 200 IM. Lars Hanna, Loren Gillilan, Skyler Carmelich and Carter Walles all competed in the C-Final.
* Antonio Milin competed in the B-Finals of the 50 Freestyle, finishing 11th.
* The `Runner women placed fourth in the 200 Free Relay with a 1:33.43, while the men were sixth with a time of 1:22.22.
 
Up Next –
The Roadrunners continue the MPSF Championships on Friday, at the East Los Angeles College Swim Stadium. Friday's events include the 100 Butterfly, the 400 Individual Medley, the 200 Freestyle, the 100 Breaststroke and the 400 Medley Relay.
 
Autumn D'Arcy and Loren Gillilan will compete for conference championships in the 100 Butterfly, while Mikayla Popham and Ryan Brimer go for gold in the 200 Freestyle. Freshman Danielle Albright and senior Antonio Milin are CSUB's top challengers in the 100 Breaststroke.
