Final Seconds Favor CSUN in 53-52 Loss

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – It would come down to the final seconds of the game on Saturday to decide a winner in the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team's closing road game at CSUN. The Roadrunners had a pair of opportunities at the rim in the final five seconds but could not convert falling to the Matadors, 53-52.

Andie Easley led all scorers with 18 points marking her second-straight game leading the `Runners in scoring. She made a career-best five three-pointers in the contest. Easley was joined in double figures by Jayden Eggleston and Vanessa Austin. Eggleston finished with 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds while Austin chipped in a solid 12 points and six board in 23 minutes.

CSUB led 8-7 midway through the first before a triple put CSUN up 10-8. A timely three-pointer from the Matadors with under 90 seconds in the quarter gave the home team its five-point, 15-10, lead at the end of the first period.

CSUN had extended its lead to eight points in the second quarter before back-to-back triples from Easley brought the game within two points, 18-16. Bakersfield would close the half on a 9-2 run to lead the Matadors at halftime, 25-20. Easley led all scorers with nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range.

Easley was active all over the floor in the third period. Her fourth three of the game put the `Runners up one, 32-31. She then assisted the next bucket by Eggleston that put the Roadrunners up, 34-33. It was Easley's fifth three that once again put the `Runners back on top, 39-38, and her free throws that gave the team its 41-38 lead ahead of the fourth.

CSUB had a three-point, 47-44, lead with 6:30 left in the game. The Matadors outscored the Roadrunners 5-0 in the next four minutes and thirty seconds before Austin helped give CSUB its 50-49 edge with 1:59 left in the game. The Matadors trailed by one with five seconds left but a pair of free throws gave them a 53-52 lead. A timeout and ball advance put the Roadrunners at midcourt, however a pair of good looks at the rim would fall short and CSUN would hold on for the win.

The women (2-15, 1-7 Big West) return home for the team's final four home games of the year spread over the next two weeks hosting UC Riverside, UC Davis, Cal Poly, and Hawai'i.
