Stanford Slips Past CSUB in Pac-12 Dual, 20-17

BAKERSFIELD – Five Roadrunner wrestlers won individual bouts, but Stanford used extra points in three crucial victories to sneak past CSU Bakersfield, 20-17, in a Pac-12 Conference dual at Burnham Pavilion, Thursday afternoon. CSUB won four or more matchups for the fourth-consecutive dual and continues to build momentum after a slow start to the season. 

The `Runners received victories from Eddie Flores (125), Chance Rich (133), Albert Urias (174), Jacob Hansen (184) and Jacob Sieder (285), posting the team's most competitive result versus the Cardinal since an 18-16 win in Palo Alto, Calif., during the 2019 season. 

CSUB trailed 13-0 early, before Urias jump started the Bakersfield comeback. The Bakersfield native used a late third period reversal to force overtime against #29 Tyler Eischens, before and making quick work of his ranked opponent in the extra frame. 

The Roadrunners would win four of the next five bouts, including dominant major decisions from Hansen and Sieder. 

CSUB falls to 2-7 overall, and 0-2 in Pac-12 duals, while Stanford improves to 4-3 and 2-1, respectively.

MATCH NOTES…
* Albert Urias collected his second win versus a ranked opponent this season when he outlasted #29 Tyler Eischens in the sudden victory period. 
* Jacob Hansen stayed hot, winning his fourth-straight dual meet bout with a major decision victory over Stanford's Nick Addison. 
* Jacob Sieder matched Hansen with a fourth-consecutive victory of his own. Sieder who rejoined the `Runners at the semester break, dropped his first three bouts to ranked opponents and has not lost since. 
* Eddie Flores won his third dual meet bout of the season with an 8-3 win over Suhas Chundi. 
* Chance Rich improved to 7-2 on the year, dominating his bout with #31 Jackson DiSario for his first ranked win of the season. 
* CSUB has averaged 22 points over their past four dual meets after scoring just 5.2 per dual in its first five outings. The `Runners are 2-2 in their last four match ups. 

UP NEXT…
Bakersfield next heads down the coast for a tri-meet at Cal Poly on Sunday, Feb. 13. The `Runners will also face Air Force in San Luis Obispo.
