Get to Know CSUB Women's Basketball: Forwards

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Season has begun for the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team as they completed their first game of the season on Tuesday, Nov. 8, against the USC Trojans. The Roadrunners was tested against the Pac-12 team all game and lost their season opener, 86-41. CSUB travels to Fresno State Friday, Nov. 11, to take on the Bulldogs.

We want to continue to introduce the team to fans, providing more insight into the person behind the name, number, and uniform. Next up in our position-by-position breakdown of the `Runner women's basketball team, meet Head Coach Greg McCall's forwards.

Notable
  • McCall on the group: "Julia Riley and Garrisen Freeman are our combo bigs who can both guard a forward or even a center, but can also pass out and set up plays. We don't have a true back-to-the-basket player like Vanessa Austin, but all of our bigs are great passers and can get to the rim."
`Runner Shooting Guards
  • #3 Hennie van Schaik (Returner)
    • 6-foot-3, sophomore
    • From Urks, The Netherlands, went to Centre for Sports and Education in Zwolle, Netherlands.
    • Started in 16 of 25 games as a freshman.
    • In her first career start as a Roadrunner, she tallied a double-double.

    • Was voted to All Big West Freshman Team.
    • Participated in the FIBA U20 European Championship over the summer in 2021 for her national team.
    • Coach McCall: "Hennie has grown since she has been here, grown taller. She has developed into a great stretch four. She showed her range a lot last year, but she has gotten more confident in being able to put the ball on the floor as well as being able to post up. She's become a lot more physical and tougher."
    • Most influential athlete: "My brother because I grew up with him and he's been a role model to me. He's a pro now and I'm trying to be just like him."
  • #15 Kayla Morris (Returner)
    • 6-foot-2, redshirt freshman

    • Produced a double-double in season opener against Bethesda with career highs in points (14) and rebounds (10).

  • #32 Garrisen Freeman (Returner)
    • 5-foot-10, redshirt freshman
    • From Las Vegas, Nevada, graduated from Spring Valley High School.
    • Earned first team all-conference honors all four years.
