CSUB Athletics to Celebrate 50 Years of Title IX

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield Athletics is joining athletics departments across the country in celebrating the Golden Anniversary of Title IX, one of the most impactful pieces of legislation for women's rights. On Dec. 1 at Stockdale Country Club, the Roadrunners will host a 50 Years of Title IX event, presented by Hall Ambulance and Valley Strong Credit Union and headlined by keynote speaker Bianca Smith, who was recently featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated's special Title IX issue.

Bianca Smith Trading Card
A trailblazer for women in sports, Smith made history in 2021 when she became the first Black female coach in professional baseball history. An Ivy League education, a law degree, and a variety of working roles in both collegiate and professional sports all led Smith to be hired by the Boston Red Sox to coach in the organization's minor league system.

"Title IX's impact has been prolific, with some calling it the most important legislation for women in America after the right to vote," said Cindy Goodmon, CSUB's Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator.

"As I reflect on the impact and changes over the past fifty years since the passing of Title IX, I truly am amazed and grateful for the opportunities now given to female athletes. CSUB alone has provided over 5000 female student-athletes the ability to compete and serve our community."

"Bianca Smith is a prime example of someone who has taken the torch from the women who came before her and she is also paving the way for women in the future."

CSUB Athletics will proudly welcome Smith to Bakersfield on Dec. 1 for the Title IX 50th Anniversary Celebration. The evening begins at 6 p.m. at Stockdale Country Club with a VIP Meet and Greet set for 5:30 p.m. for those with VIP tickets.

While seating is limited at the event, there are still some sponsorship opportunities available. Information about tickets can be found in the linked brochure. For questions or to purchase tickets, call Mark Mayes at 661-654-3473, or call 661-654-BLUE, or visit GoRunners.com/Tickets.
