Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Roadrunners Downed in Home Finale, 2-0

Bakersfield – UC Riverside sandwiched goals around the halftime break, spoiling California State University, Bakersfield's senior night celebrations and stealing a 2-0 victory on The Main Soccer Field, Saturday night in front of an announced crowd of 305. 
 
The Highlanders got three points from defender Brendan Clark to improve to 5-7-4 overall and 4-2-2 in conference play, while CSUB fell to 2-12-2 and 0-7-1.  
 
First Half… 
* UC Riverside struck in the 43rd minute, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal from Brendan Clark. Josue Varela and Aleksander Vukovic assisted on the play. 
* The Highlanders outshot CSUB 10-3, putting three shots on goal and forcing a pair of saves from Bakersfield goalkeeper Filippo Dadone.
* The two teams combined for just six first half fouls, three each. 
 
Second Half…
* After scoring with just two minutes remaining in the first half, the Highlanders doubled their lead two minutes into the second half. Alfonso Ramirez scored to make it 2-0, with assists credited to Brendan Clark and Adrian Meade-Tatum. 
* Filippo Dadone made four second half saves to finish the game with six stops. 
* UC Riverside ended the game with a 21-5 advantage in shots. 
 
Notable…
* Prior to Saturday's contest the Roadrunners honored four senior student-athletes. Juan Pablo Alvarez, Carlos Armendariz, Harry Downing and Stephon Marcano have combined to make 166 appearances in their CSUB careers. 
* With the loss, Bakersfield was officially eliminated from Big West Post-Season contention. 
 
Up Next…
* The Roadrunners will close out the 2022 campaign a week from tonight, when they travel to rival Cal Poly on Oct. 29 for a 7 p.m. kick off.
