Covert Enjoys Career Effort on Senior Night, CSUB Draws 2-2 with UC San Diego

Bakersfield – Senior Kaylee Covert enjoyed a career performance on Senior Night, registering a goal and an assist as California State University, Bakersfield raced out to a 2-0 lead, but UC San Diego roared back in the second half to earn a Big West Conference draw, Saturday night at The Main Soccer Field in front of an announced crowd of 365. The Roadrunners are now 2-2-5 in league play.

"San Diego is a good team and they played well, but for us it's a matter of closing games down," said CSUB Head Coach Sebastian Vecchio. "I thought we were fantastic in the first half and for about 30 minutes in the second, before they took over. Unfortunately, we didn't come up with the three points."

First Half...
* Two CSUB seniors combined for the game's first goal when Kaylee Covert slotted a pass through the Triton defense to Rhyan Acosta who beat the UCSD goalkeeper and finished into an empty net.
* Bakersfield dominated the first 45 minutes, outshooting UCSD 13-5, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.
* Roadrunner goalkeeper Hollee Hercik made two first half saves.

Second Half...
* Kaylee Covert made it 2-0 CSUB early in the second half when she cut to the middle of the field and drilled a long shot over the outstretched arms of UCSD goalkeeper Keara Fitzgerald.
* Moments later Dome Rodriguez took a pass from Kalea Eichenberger and appeared to give the 'Runners a three-goal advantage, but the play was whistled offside.
* Courtney Hilliard cut the Triton deficit in half in the 57th minute, setting the stage for Kennedy Carter to equalize with less than three minutes to play in the game.
