`Runners Earn Vital Road Point at Hawai'i

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Battling against an aggressive Hawai'i squad on the road, the Cal State Bakersfield women's soccer earned a vital point in a 1-1 tie Sunday evening. The Roadrunners came back from a goal down against the Rainbow Wahine and continue to put themselves in position to qualify for The Big West Championship in two weeks.

Quotes from Head Coach Sebastian Vecchio
* "The grit and work rate of this group was outstanding today. We just don't go away when we are in it mentally."
* "I thought the group was very mature the way we handled the second part of this massive trip and we got a valuable point with all the distractions that Hawai'i offers."
* "We have a huge game on Thursday night, alongside with celebrating our seniors. We need all the support we can get from our Roadrunners faithful."

Notable...
* CSUB earned another road point, gaining sole possession of sixth in The Big West standings. Only the Top 6 teams in the league advance to The Big West Championship (Oct. 30 - Nov. 6).
* Bakersfield only sits one point behind UC Irvine and UC Davis, which are tied for fourth in the table.
* The `Runners are one point ahead of both UC Santa Barbara and Hawai'i, so strong results in the team's final two matches are crucial.
* `Runner goalkeeper Hollee Hercik made six saves against Hawai'i on Sunday, but Rhyan Acosta cleared a potential game-winner off the line in the 78th minute.
* UH outshot CSUB 21-5 on the match, but only eight of the 'Bows' attempts were on goal.

First Half…
* Hawai'i broke through in the 26th minute, converting on a corner kick opportunity that was put away by Kelci Sumida.
* The `Runners answered back with three minutes left in the period. Anela Nigito netted her second goal of the season on a pass from Kaylee Covert.
* Bakersfield played a physical first half as UH benefitted from a large advantage in the fouls category early on.

Second Half...
* A hectic stretch of seven minutes in the middle of the period saw three shots by each team and a pair of saves from both keepers.
* Although Hawai'i enjoyed most of the offensive opportunities, Bakersfield preserved the tie behind four second-half saves from Hercik.
