Bakersfield Drops Conference Contest Against CSUN

Bakersfield - Visiting CSUN scored a pair of second half goals to slip past host California State University, Bakersfield 2-0 in a Big West Conference match-up on Viva Los 'Runners night at The Main Soccer Field, Saturday evening. The Roadrunners fell for the third-straight outing and now have just three games remaining in which to play themselves back into the post-season tournament.
"I thought we were very active in the first half, with good energy levels and had a chance to be up," said CSUB Head Coach Richie Grant. "We knew the first goal was going to be so important tonight, and when it came for them (early in the second) broke the spirit we had and after that we were chasing it a bit."
First Half...
* Bakersfield had the best chance of the first half, when winger Stephon Marcano cut across the top of the box and saw his shot beat CSUN goalkeeper Cooper Wenzel only to clang off the outside of the right goalpost.
* The 'Runners outshot CSUN 7-3 for the period, including a 2-1 advantage in shots on goal.
* CSUB also earned four corner kicks, while holding the Matadors without a corner chance.
Second Half...
* CSUN broke through in the 53rd minute, when Levin Gerhardt took a pass from David Diaz and beat CSUB's Filippo Dadone
* Kanata Furutani doubled the Matador lead in the 82nd minute.
* CSUN outshot the Roadrunners 10-6 in the final 45 minutes of play, with the two teams tying with 13 shot attempts each for the game.
Notable...
* Senior captain Carlos Armendariz made his 49th-consecutive start for CSUB.
* Bakersfield goalkeeper Filippo Dadone made a pair of saves, while facing four shots on goal.
* CSUB lost for the third-straight game after drawing with #24 UC Santa Barbara two weeks ago.
