Yabut Inks Sarah Mutai to Golf NLI

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Another future Roadrunner has committed to making the CSU Bakersfield women's golf team better as Sarah Mutai signed a National Letter of Intent this week. A standout junior golfer from Torrance, Calif., Mutai will close out her prep career before joining the CSUB squad for the 2022-23 season.

"We are extremely happy to add a player of Sarah's caliber to our roster," said Tiffanie Yabut, Head Coach at CSUB. "She has been a force in Southern California junior golf, winning multiple events with multiple under-par rounds. Other than her success on the course, her work ethic and passion for the game will continue to help elevate our standard and contribute to our future success!"

This past Fall, Mutai tied for second with a score of 145 (71-74, +1) at the FCG tournament at Twin Oaks Golf Course. Proving her ability to shoot slow, Mutai posted a 69 (-3) at the Girls Toyota Tour Cup (Arroyo Trabuco GC), the second-lowest round of the entire tournament field. The week prior, she posted a Top 10 finish at the TTC event at Las Posas Country Club while also finishing tied for 11th in two other TTC tournaments in 2021.

At the IMG Junior World Championship Qualifiers, Mutai placed second overall to be one of three qualifying golfers. Mutai also earned SCPGA Jr. Tour Player of the Year, winning or tying for first in 11 of 26 events. Along the way, she posted a low round of 65 (-5).

Mutai has helped Torrance High School's varsity golf team to great success. She guided the Tartars to a second-place finish at the CIF Central Division Team Championships in 2019, joining just 12 schools to advance to the CIF Southern Section Finals. Mutai also helped THS earn an Ocean League Team title in 2019.

Joining the 2022-23 squad this Fall, Mutai will be a welcome addition to the `Runner family. In the meantime, Yabut's squad will continue the 2021-22 season with competitive action kicking off again next week. CSUB is preparing to host CSUN at Bakersfield Country Club for the team's Golden Game on Feb. 3.
