Bakersfield Falls in Dual Meet at #8 Iowa State

Ames, Iowa – CSU Bakersfield saw a steady stream of ranked Cyclone opponents, dropping a dual meet at #8 Iowa State, 44-0, Wednesday evening at Hilton Coliseum. The Roadrunners made the last-minute trek to ISU after both team's original dual meet plans were canceled last week.
 
Iowa State sent ranked wrestlers to the mat in seven of the evening's nine contested bouts with five capturing bonus points for the Cyclones.
 
Eddie Flores (125), #27 Angelo Martinoni (141) each battled ranked opponents to narrow losses by decision.
 
The highlight of the night for Bakersfield came when junior Augustine Garcia roared back from a 5-0 deficit to ISU's Austin Kraisser with a five-point third frame. Garcia pulled within a single point when he notched his second take down of the period with just 0:16 seconds remaining, but a conceded escape and a ride time point gave Kraisser a hard-fought 8-5 victory.
 
An early first-period takedown was the difference for redshirt sophomore Albert Urias (174) as he fell 4-1 to Cyclone Julien Broderson.

Junior Louie Ramos posted a win in an extra match at 141 pounds, when he outlasted Iowa State's Charlie Klepps, 4-1. 
 
CSUB falls to 0-3 in dual meets this season.

NOTABLE…
* Angelo Martinoni saw his six-bout dual meet winning streak snapped at the hands of Iowa State's #11 Ian Parker.
* Josh Loomer (197) and Jacob Sieder (285) were both competing in their first dual meet in nearly a full year. The two upperweight wrestlers last saw dual action on Jan. 24, 2021, in home matchups with Stanford and Little Rock.
* The Roadrunners and Cyclones squared off for the first time since Jan. 22, 2000, a 34-3 Iowa State win in Bakersfield. The last time the two schools met in Ames came way back in 1989. ISU improved to 6-0-1 all-time against CSUB with tonight's victory.
* Bakersfield has faced two top-ten opponents in three dual meets this season. The `Runners opened the season against #4 Michigan in Ann Arbor.
