O'Hara Scores Twice, CSUB Rally Falls Short vs. Pacific

Bakersfield, Calif. – Senior Aodhan O'Hara scored twice to pull the Roadrunners even, but Pacific responded with two late goals to beat CSU Bakersfield 4-2 on Sunday evening at the Main Soccer Field. The `Runners trailed 2-0 at the break before rallying early in the second half, but ran out of steam late, falling to 0-3-1 on the young season.

"We have a lot of character in our dressing room and now we need to show our character," said CSUB co-captain Harry Downing "We showed a lot of energy getting back even in this one and it was disappointing to give back two late, but we'll learn from this adversity and be better for it."

Angel Reyes and Mathias Saether scored midway through the first half to stake the Tigers to a 2-0 lead at the break. Pacific carried the play in the first 45 minutes, dominating possession and out pacing CSUB 4-0 in shots on goal in the frame.

Bakersfield responded in the second half, outshooting Pacific 12-9.

O'Hara put the `Runners on the board in the 49th minute, finishing off strong build up that saw Niall Owens and Niklas Roessler earn assists.

He evened the score in the 67th minute and momentum seemed squarely with CSUB, but the Tigers scored back-to-back goals in the 79th and 80th minute to steal a victory on the road.

Mamoru Kamisasanuki entered the game in the 72nd minute and wasted little time in making an impact, collecting the primary assist on each of Pacific's late goals.

Scott Pengelly made a pair of saves for CSUB, while Tiger goalkeeper Eric Cotton made two stops of his own.

The Roadrunners now hit the road for five straight contests, beginning next week with games at San Diego and San Diego State on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Bakersfield will then travel to Gonzaga on Sept. 17, before opening conference play at CSUN on Sept. 29.

Scoring Summary:
24 | Pacific opened the scoring after an extended run of play culminated in Reyes' goal from the CSUB doorstep, when Saether's header caromed off the cross bar and landed at his teammate's feet for a 1-0 lead.
30 | The Tigers doubled their lead six minutes later when Yazid Omri sprang Saether with a deft pass from the midfield. Saether snuck behind the Bakersfield back line and slotted a shot past Pengelly into the lower right corner.
49 | O'Hara finished off a brilliant passing play at the goal mouth to pull CSUB within a goal. Roessler sprung Owens up the left-side and Owens' cross was perfectly placed on the foot of a driving O'Hara.
67 | O'Hara struck for his second goal of the night, and third of the weekend, when he pounced on the rebound of a Bryson Hankins shot and one touched it inside the near post to pull the `Runners even.
79 | Avery Whipple put the Tigers back on top, when he collected Kamisasanuki's pass behind the CSUB line and finished into the left corner.
80 | Diego Villapudua capped the scoring in the 80th minute. Kamisasanuki picked up his second assist on the play.
