Bakersfield Stumbles in San Diego

Bakersfield, Calif. – Niklas Clausen scored twice for San Diego, and CSU Bakersfield fell 2-0 to their hosts at Torero Stadium on Friday evening. The Roadrunners carried possession much of the game, outshooting USD 14-10 and earning 18 corner kicks, but couldn't put one past opposing goalkeeper Marley Mascarenas, losing for the fourth time in five games.
 
The Toreros took control of the game in the 13th minute when Clausen's first strike of the night put them in a position to manage the rest of the game. The Danish forward now has three goals in five games to lead San Diego, which improved to 1-4-0 with the win.

"It was disappointing to concede a tough first goal," said CSUB Head Coach Richie Grant. "We played better in the second half, with great opportunity to pull even at one, but we weren't able to finish a chance."
 
Mascarenas made three saves for the home team, earning his first clean sheet of the season.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Scott Pengelly made four saves for the `Runners, a career high.
 
Bakersfield captain, midfielder Carlos Armendariz, posted a team-high three shot attempts and two shots on goal. Freshmen Brima Kamara and Kevin Estrada each registered a pair of shots off the bench.
 
The Roadrunners continue their road swing through San Diego on Sunday, with a 3:00 p.m. kick off at San Diego State.

13 | The Toreros opened the scoring in the 13th minute when forward Nicklas Clausen finished into the lower right-hand corner off assists from Ross Johnstone and Michael Barrow.
77 | Clausen converted again on a Penalty Kick, to give USD a 2-0 lead, following a foul in the box by Armendariz.
