Roadrunners Earn Clean Sheet in Exhibition Win

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Freshman Amari Bailey and sophomore Karen Flores each scored a goal Friday night as CSU Bakersfield women's soccer earned a 2-0 clean sheet in an exhibition win over The Master's on Friday night at the Main Soccer Field.

The Roadrunners moved the ball around well to start the match, but it would take a corner to set up the scoring play in the 19th minute. Junior Kaylee Covert sent a high ball from left corner to the right-side post where Bailey connected for the opening goal.

The Mustangs created quality advances towards the goal line but were unable to capitalize at the net. TMU finished the half outshooting the Roadrunners 8-5 although just two of those attempts were on target.

CSUB scored again in the second half, behind the boot of Flores in the 64th minute of the contest. Freshman Solei Moton found Flores who sent a blast at the right back post to secure the insurance goal. The Roadrunners ended the match with an advantage in shots (17-10) after holding the visitors to just two shot in the second period.

Freshman Flavia Burrell started at goalkeeper for Bakersfield and had three saves to earn the win. Payton Williams was in net for The Master's, making three stops.

CSUB travels to Sacramento State next Saturday, Aug. 21, for a season-opening non-confernce match beginning at 6:00 p.m. Bakersfield returns home for a regular season home opener with Azusa Pacific on Aug. 26.

SCORING SUMMARY:
19th | 1-0 | Bailey broke a scoreless tie when he collected a Kaylee Covert corner kick at the right post and slotted a shot into the lower left corner.
64th | 2-0 | Sophomore forward Karen Flores served a blast at the back right post off of a pass from freshman Solei Moton.
