Santana Wins, Crawford and Stein Advance to Finals

AZUSA, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield men and women's outdoor track and field left their mark at the Bryan Clay Invitational meet on Friday. The Roadrunners took first, second and third in men's hammer and saw Derek Crawford and Julia Stein advance in sprints and hurdles, respectively.

"I am so pleased with the efforts of Derek, Julia and our throwers – they're doing a fantastic job," said Director of Track and Field, Cross Country Marcia Mansur-Wentworth.

Hugo Santana won his third hammer event of the season and has now led CSUB for the sixth time on the year. Santana threw for 171'10" to place first in a deep field of throwers. Corbin Chronister and Tom Richardson placed second and third, respectively.

Crawford advances on to tomorrow's 400m finals after finishing second in the preliminaries with a time of 49.48. He will also race in the 200m finals qualifying with a sixth-place finish in the event. Crawford ran personal bests in each preliminary race.

Stein advances on to a pair of finals events tomorrow with seventh placed times in both the 100m hurdles (15.18) and 400m hurdles (1:05.23).

The Roadrunners are back at the Bryan Clay Invitational tomorrow for finals, pole vault, high jump and triple jump.

"I am looking forward to tomorrow's finals, as well as the remaining field events," added Mansur-Wentworth.
