CSUB Gets Come-From-Behind Win, Sweeps UCSD



BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball earned their third conference sweep, first come from behind win on Friday. The Roadrunners had three players finish in double figures, edging UC San Diego in the final seconds of the contest, 69-66.
 
Jayden Eggleston had a game-high twenty points and matched the leading rebounder with seven. Andie Easley filled the stat sheet with nineteen points, six rebounds and a game-best six assists. 
 
Freshman Sophie Tougas posted her second straight game with ten or more. She scored twelve points and added a game-high two blocks. Junior forward Miracle Saxon chipped in eight points, six rebounds and a steal for the Roadrunners.
 
UC San Diego had three in double figures in Tyla Turner (18), Emily Cangelosi (13) and Briana Claros (12). Cangelosi also had six rebounds for the Triton while Sydney Brown and Aishah Brown grabbed a team-best seven.
 
First Quarter
 
UC San Diego opened the contest, but Bakersfield quickly respoinded. The score went back and forth for midway through the period until UCSD went on a run while CSUB went cold and closed the period up fifteen, 25-10. 
 
Second Quarter
 
Bakersfield started to get going in the second quarter, however the Tritons were still rolling from behind the arch. CSUB cut the deficit to ten with 4:29 left but found themselves down fourteen, 43-29, at halftime.
 
Third Quarter
 
Things started to really ignite for the Roadrunners in the third quarter. Bakersfield tied the game late in the period at 50 apiece. The score would go back and forth for the remaining three minutes but the `Runners found themselves on top, 56-55.
 
Fourth Quarter
 
The final quarter had everyone on edge from start to finish. The period started with split free throws that tied the game, 56-56. The Roadrunners lead by four with 3:25 to play but the Tritons' success from the charity stripe late kept the game within reach. CSUB called a timeout with 0.31 seconds left. Sophomore Lexus Green sunk a three with 0.02 seconds. UC San Diego got a three-point attempt off but couldn't convert and the `Runners won, 69-66. 
 
Next Game
 
Bakersfield (9-7, 6-5 BWC) heads home to prepare for next weekend, their final two conference games on the docket. Since CSUN opted out of the season, UC Santa Barbara is the Roadrunners last league opponent scheduled. Both contests are set for 4 PM.
