Clayburne Sets Career-High in UNLV Loss

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - CSU Bakersfield women's basketball opened its December slate with the team's second loss in the Icardo Center and fifth on the season. A slow offensive start was the Roadrunners crux on Sunday afternoon in the 56-68 loss against the UNLV Lady Rebels.

CSUB had a pair of double figure scorers in Jayden Eggleston's team-best 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists and Tatyanna Clayburne's career-high 12 points. As a group, the `Runners shot 31.7% from field goal, 36.0% from behind the 3-point line, and 58.3% from the free throw line.

UNLV stepped on the Valley Strong Blue Court ready to play jumping out to an 11-0 lead in the first three minutes of the contest. Bakersfield outscored the Rebels in the last three minutes of the quarter but was not able to get the scoring gap down to single digits ahead of the second period, down 6-20.

The Roadrunners chipped away at the deficit coming within nine points, 23-14, of UNLV with under seven minutes in the second quarter but found themselves down, 20-37, at half time. Eggleston and Andie Easley paced CSUB into the locker room in scoring each tallying six points.

Bakersfield bested the Rebels in the third quarter by three points but still faced an uphill battle with sights on earning the come-from-behind-win and trailing, 35-49. Lexus Green made her first basket of the game in the last seconds of the period sinking a mid-range jumper as the third expired.

It was the Clayburne show in the fourth as she made four 3-pointers in the period bringing the game within 11, eight points with 5:52 left in the contest, nine, and 10 points with under two and a half minutes to go. Her third assist on the afternoon came in the final full 30 second count when she found a diving Soli Herrera in the paint for the final score, 71-56.

Up next, CSUB closes its home non-conference schedule next week with games against Sacramento State on Wednesday and Fresno State on Saturday.
